I am a citified folding knife type of guy!
I've done my share of hunting, and living on and off of the land - the best times were in fish and oyster country up the rugged coast of British Columbia. A lemon, a knife and a shucker, and a small bottle of Tobasco, maybe a couple of green onions snagged from the garden, and I could sit on a rock and eat a dozen of the world's best oysters!!
But those days are a sweet memory, currently. Now a fixed blade knife was always on my hip in those sweet days, and having ignored FBs for many years, I had the good fortune to visit GEC last month.
Lo and behold, a nice woman preparing to package the new H1012 Outing Knife brought a particularly nice one out to show the owner. I was there as they were commenting on how nice the stag turned out on this one. I suspect they knew they were waving a red flag in front of a bull, but I couldn't contain myself! "Lemme see that thing!" I said politely . . . . .I was hooked!
My first FB in a long time! Sharp, too!!

Wow what a beauty. I've been lately drooling at gec fbs as well. You are pushing me over the edge here :p

Nice looking knife & sheath, I have to be honest in the past I had looked at their FB, but the sheaths that most of them came with looked cheap & ugly, I like the one you have it looks sturdy, congrats.

Charlie.......

You know traditional slip joint production companies have always offered a number of fixed blade patterns in their line, but I've never given them any thought...probably because I didn't think that they could make a good one, plus they seemed rather plain and boring....though throw a good looking pair of stag handles like those and I'm echoing Art's sentiments "You are pushing me over the edge"

Great looking knife!

I have eyed them too, but thus far have been able to resist.

Thanks for the positive comments, guys!
I can't wait for a reason to pack it on my hip!

I have to say I've been tempted by fixed blades from Case and Buck but that's the first one from GEC that's caught my eye. Could be the stag... :D

I just don't get enough chance to truly use one, maybe 6 times a year during camping trips with our Scout Troop that aren't on council property. Our next big trip with the Scouts is to Boston with the council, and we were told not to bring any knives since it is a city trip.<banging head> You'd think a PA Scout Troop should be carrying PA made knives!

Congrats on a beauty Charlie!

Cheers,
Griff

Thanks Gary!!
Nice to hear from you Vince!!

I sympathize, Griff! How pathetic!!

I think that is a good enough reason for you to come visit Montana Charlie! After all it is the "perfect" time of year (hunting season) for a fixed blade, and that 1 is a looker for sure!

Nice looking knife. Curious though, shouldn't the shield be on the other side of the handle so it shows when it's in the sheath?

I stay away from most commercial fixed blades as I'm a lefty... do have several customs though, with sheaths made for the left hip.

Really? I've found right hand sheaths worn on the left don't really affect its use or comfort, same can't be said for pistol holsters but for a knife I haven't found deal breaking issues.

That knife looks great, GEC are really filling a major niche that the traditional folk have been screaming for...love it!
