Looking for a FB like this:

4-5" blade, 1/8" to 3/16" at thickest
good for EDC
solid, flawless build quality
flat grind
full visible tang
textured G10 slabs screwed or pinned
production or custom both ok
drop point
adequate choil or integrated guard to prevent slipping onto blade
lanyard hole
kydex sheath preferred, but not mandatory
high quality steel, carbon or SS both ok

model/maker recommendations welcome

so far, I was eyeing the Buck Strider 888 in BG-42

Does anybody have comments on this model? For that price, I'm almost in custom range, so I'm going to give it some thought!

Thanks

LT

The new Camillus/Becker BK-10 is pretty close to what you are looking for.

The Talon in Talonite or 154CM might be what you are looking for.

not really looking for a coated blade, plus the becker looks a tad stout... looking for a slim profile overall. The talon looks nice, except for the way the G10 slabs don't meet the outline of the tang... looks like they don't fit... this probably offers some function, like indexing, but that's not too important to me... thanks for the ideas... keep 'em coming!! 888 is still on top. As for Dozier... I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, that he works exclusively in Micarta for handles, and they're kinda stout as well.

GERBER Yari fits practically all points of your bill. The scales are made of fabric micarta, the grind is very high flat, close to entire blade width. Also attractively priced.
In my opinion it is one of the best buys in this knife group.

If you don’t concern too strongly against “rubber” handles please take a look onto Fallkniven F1 or S1.

the Yari looks interesting, although I wasn't really in the market for a coated blade... I would opt for bead-blast for this next knife. the canvas micarta looks like G10, but does it feel the same?? I really like the feel of my textured spydie millie handle, that's why I'm looking for another G10 handle. I have the F1, carried it for a while, but I find that when carried IWB, it's a tad top-heavy, and the rubberized grip get's somewhat hung up on clothing.

I used to own a Buck Strider FB in ATS-34. I got a kydex sheath for it from here http://www.buybrownholsters.com/ that is IWB or teklok capable. I really liked that knife. It is a heavy, serious tool. I ended up giving it as gift.:(

Larrytwohig,
GERBER Yari blade coating is pretty hard and doesn’t get scratched too easily, anyway it is harder than black teflon coating what BENCHMADE and FALLKNIVEN use on their blades.

Canvas micarta feels somewhat “softer” and “warmer” than textured G-10 because of its somewhat porous surface. I took these terms in quotation marks because really it is not any softer, this is just subjective feel. It is not as strong as G-10 but in case of scales screwed to full-length blade tang it is more than enough strong to hold up even in the meanest conditions. Comparing with BENCHMADE Nimravus I could consider that it provides somewhat better adhesion to wet or sweated palm than textured G-10.

Just as an update, I went with a Rinaldi TTKK in S30V with G10 slabs... great feeling knife, and a useful utility/kitchen/SD blade! Recently picked up a Dozier new design straight personal, and a razorback to accompany it... any opinions on R.W. Clark Model 10?

Hey there Larry.. Glad you like the TTKK.. Ron Clarks model 10 is a great knife as well.. Very comfy grip, and a good high performance blade style.. Happy cuttin...

Trace, perhaps you could help... my only real issue with the TTKK is that the sheath is on the tight side, as far as retention and draw are concerned... great retention, but retarded draw... I'm afraid of attacking with a blowdrier before getting some advice... it's actually the unsharpened part of the blade (finger guard I guess), that's catching. Thanks!!
