Well to occupy myself with all that is going on I decided to do a little work on one of our fellow Hog's FBM's. Two things I am working on.

(1) First there were some pretty big nicks in the edge. So I use a stone sharpener and while holding it perpendicular to the edge I ran it up and down the blade. This smoothed out the edge but of course left it dull. The sharpening comes next.

(2) Secondly there was a bulge in the edge from the owner, ummm, shooting it with a .22 cal long. :p This made the wave have a little wave in it if you were looking at the edge. So I used a plastic dead blow hammer to try to straighten the edge a little. (not me).

I am waiting to hear from the owner to see if he wants it stripped and given a rough satin finish before I sharpen it. More pics to come. :)

Hmm... I'm wondering if said HOG might have been slightly inebriated when he discharged the firearm which propelled the lead slug which in turn struck the broadside blade of said FBM.... Hmmm...  :foot:

How could anyone be so insensitive and use a Muddy/Snakeskin.   Please immediately send the Fbm to New Zealand where it will be treated with the care and love that these Muddy beauties deserve.:) :)

So just hacking on stuff like trees and cinder bricks just doesn't quite cut the mustard any more... We have resorted to SHOOTING knives!

Now that is knife testing ;)

why would you think i need alcohol to do something stupid?

i am perfectly capable of performing completely ridiculous acts of destruction without the help of several bud lights and the encouragement of someone who enjoys my stupidity.

....allegedly.

LOL!!! :D

Dang. Now someone's going to have to up the ante and shoot an FBM with a .30 caliber. Before you know it, folks will be using .50 caliber rifles at close range. Where will the insanity end?

A little vote. This is a user obviously. Should the coating stay on and just sharpen it. Or should it be stripped, given a rough satin finish (like on my Batac), and then sharpened?

Which one would you do?

FBM blades look like big gray Ruffle's potato chips when stripped. I say strip it. :D

aim closer to the spine.

that's all i have to say about that....

Well the owner has spoken. It shall be stripped and then given a new edge! Stay tunned. :D

After a few minutes with a stripper. This coating, the muddy, was by far the easiest coating I ever stripped.

After a few minutes with a scotch-brite wheel.

Plenty of work left to do. But this is a user and we are off to a good start. ;)

I think it SCREAMS!!!!.....beadblast. Yeeah :D. I should have that cabinet in a couple months...now...where to put it? If you get overwhealmed with that edge you can always send it to the edge doctor :p...I've fixed worse.

Very nice job Tyrkon. It's almost forgotten Mark's abuse. Almost ;)

Tyron! i am planning the same project on my FFBM, just curious as to what type of scotch brite pads you were using and if its the same ones that you just install at the end of a drill? thanks
