FBMLE with a couple mods

Great job on that Bill! I really like the treatment on the handles and the false edge is sweet

Very Nice, are the handles Micarta?, smoothed Factory micarta?

The G-10 on the Proto at Blade West was way to smooth and slick to hold onto in hard use for me,(Projected use, I did not buy one and just formed the opinion based on the limited handling I did at the show) Smooth micatra would seem to be a real nice way to go.

They are tiger hide micarta... and I believe Bill smoothed themout.

And I agree with you on smooth G-10... not my thing for a user.
My preference is smooth canvas micarta, and linen micarta if it's got a pattern.

Bill,

You've got guts. I can't imagine what it takes to take a $700+ FBMLE and Mod it! My hat is off to you sir. You never cease to amaze me, what's next???

Beautiful stuff. I like it better than the original, as well.

Awesome.

I prefer a smooth handle - I smoothed out the slabs on my tiger warden last week, and this thread has inspired me to get started on my FBM LE.

Here's a hint for anyone who wants to try this by hand - get a standard white Staedler pencil eraser (the rectangular block one) and use the edge as a sanding block - wrap your sandpaper around it and use it to apply strong and even force when sanding. I find it improves control and greatly speeds up the process.
