Fear

I'm afraid that you will stop writing/posting your thoughts and experiences my friend....BF just wouldn't be the same. [emoji482]

I carry all my knives, it's part of my schtick.

I carried a knife for years that increased in value from about 500 to 1500. One day i lost it for a few hours and almost drove two hours to the last rest stop. The fear of loss made me realize i did not love that knife more than the cost so I traded it for two knives with a better design that were good enogh for me to risk losing them. :)

Fear is a funny thing, I don't think I have really been a afraid. To be afraid is dangerous. I respect dangerous things. When I was guiding brown bear hunters, I was not afraid when I had to go into the brush after three different wounded brown bears. I did respect the danger that it posed, but to be afraid would not have helped.

Fear or caution to paralysis is non-productive. We make the best decisions we can with as much GOOD knowledge as we can gather and then don't look back. Knowledge is something we can use to take the fear out of the things we endeavor to do.

As for the ivory issue, that's all about knowledge and ignorance, power and control. The science is all there, to answer any question any of us have about the elephant issue. I'm not afraid of having no elephants on earth, if that ever happens it will be so far into the future that none of US have any control over it anyway.

I'm not afraid of being unable to continue in the ivory business, although it very well could happen. I have a lot of other things that I can do that can make up for the loss of ivory.

Well, STevie, once I crossed the "80" threshold, nothing scares me…no fear of anything. I'm too big for most people to eat, and if I should do something and get a life sentence, it might not last long enough for me to change into prison clothes…..so for me NO FEAR!;)

It does concern me that I may not be able to disseminate all my vast experience and knowledge but that does not rise to the level of fear.:D

Given the fact that almost all my collectibles have to travel a long distance before they arrive at my doorstep the only fear I have is will they arrive unharmed and in top condition.

I don't fear the loss of a knife. It's an excuse to buy a replacement. I don't fear the fear of others either. I didn't like them anyway.

What I DO fear is the shame I feel after the fear of spiders(only when it's on me but I can't see it, like my shoulders, neck or back) causes me to rip my shirt off and run screaming like a girl while flailing at my back.

I fear that people will keep posting "grails" in the forsale section. A grail is in the eye of the beholder but THE holy grail, whatever it is, definitely has not been listed on the forum.

I fear that this will annoy me for the rest of my life.

While I share your fear, Jon, I can only say that I chased my "Grail" for twenty years, and it cost almost 10K.

It was an entirely worthy pursuit.....and although I may never be on TV over it or get an award for the chase....it was worth it....unique stag handled, double nude logo R.W. Loveless Dixon Fighter made about a month before he passed away with full documentation, including a letter signed by Jim Merritt.

Best Regards,

I fear you're not going to post a photo.

Your fear is accurate!

Being an attention whore has never suited my personality, nor has been showing off my goodies, lol.

I have to set different levels of grails. You could say my Hancock folder was a grail because I've wanted a good example of that model for a while. Same with a few others I have.. but these are not what I would call real grails. They are too attainable. For me an example is a Schmidt folding dagger. The one Dave Ellis has, to be specific. That said I would not call my knives grails since there are more then one and they arent the ultimate holy grails.

I was happy to hear when you finally got yours a few years back.

Heck of a post there Steven.

There is no fear with my little collection.
I've had sheep horn warp.
Stag shrink.
Blades get stained and scratched.
That all just makes them more 'mine' :)

Haven't sold one yet though... maybe there is some fear there?
Or is it satisfaction?

Again, great topic.

And I'm with you, Jon, on the grail thing... silly buzzwords...

Hey Jon,

I get what you are saying.

For me, the fact that this one was made to my request and is unlike any other stag Loveless piece that I have seen...EVER...it's a legitimate grail...there isn't another one in existence, there is no serial number electro penciled in, the point is a needle and the stag is chocolate brown.....all unique and remarkable.

Loveless afficianados that I have shown it to have offered beyond market price for it.....just not for sale....it's MY grail.
