really appreciate the extra trouble to post the other pictures, it's nice to see the knife's insides and how it went together:thumbup:
The process of a custom knife evolving can involve few or many contacts between the maker and customer. Last year I let Kyle know I would be interested in one of his JS test knives. I basically said I would like a fighter with W2 and walnut, and, since they were his test knives, stayed out of the way and let him do the rest.
When my order slot came up with Kyle, I knew I wanted another fighter, and I really have been impressed, like the rest of us, as to how quickly Kyle has adapted to forging damascus. So, a damsacus fighter with ivory was in order. When I went to Kyle's shop to discuss this, he had 9 blade profiles to inspect, and in short order we had a blade plan using his feather pattern. Around 9-inches with long clip, a few small additions which he mentioned. We discussed handle design and size (I have a large hand), discussed the amount of embellishment, etc. No filework, grooves at his discretion. And, in short order, had a plan. Then, he was consistent at keeping me up to date on the progress. Several e-mails, several pictures (some posted) including billet images and even Kyle in his yard chopping on the 2X4 test. So, even though there was some input and involvement on my part with this knife, I just wanted Kyle to know what an easy and painless process it was working with him.
I think Kyle is picking up sheath making as quickly as he has all of his other knifemaking skills. Looking forward to picking this package up over the weekend.
Thanks for a great knife, Kyle, and thanks for all the comments all! Plus, great images, Caleb!
