feather pattern scimitar in stainless damascus

What a great looking knife!
That steel is unreal:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Beautiful knife, Devin!

Feather pattern in stainless, must be a first. I've never seen it done. Great damascus work!

Gee, David, I must have invented the word.;) My feeling is that because a lot of European companies are producing this knife pattern that there is a uniquely European spelling....but this is the only word that I have personally ever seen for this pattern....I first saw it in one of the Annuals, believe that Steve Dick wrote the article about a mobile butchering outfit in Montana and the knives they used.

This is the kind of learning I just LOVE. I have, myself, always used the word "scimitar" to describe a Warenski I own. Everywhere I look, it's design is referred to as a scimitar.

When I checked "Wiki", I found that "scimitar" derives from the medieval French "cimeterre" or directly from the Italian "scimitarra". And for the blade I own, scimitar is the appropriate term - curvy blade and all.

But when checking "Wiki", I now also see that "cimeter" is "a large, curved cooking knife".

I had never seen the word "cimeter" used, but it is definitely the correct word, obviously, for this beautiful creation of Devin's - a large, curved cooking knife. Though it sure doesn't describe the beauty of the knife itself!

Best,

Bob

Sheesh, you would think that with all of the damascus you have made, you would have learned to control your patterns.........Obviously an ill attempt as sarcasm. Great Piece!!

Y'all watch out, Steven is feeling his oats and has a keyboard to express it :-)

Curt Erickson had the luxury of holding this beauty in his own hands today and says it's absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. Devin dropped by there on his way through the area for a visit, and the two discussed the attributes of this gorgeous stainless pattern.

Devin, I think a bunch of us are really struck by it. You put out some beautiful art!

Best,

Bob Betzner

Hi Devin, Great knife, I'd think you could do some carvin' AND shreadin'. Thanks for the look at it.

I can't quickly find the mobile slaughtering story, but Steve Dick writes about kitchen knives in K'92, page 44 mentions the cimeter, aka cimeter steak.

You knocked this one right out of the park, Devin.

that makes more sense, when I think scimitar, I think 'Hassan chop!'.
this looks more to me like a butcher's knife.

Sometimes, something really special comes around that makes me wanna pull the trigger sooo bad - and this one is just THAT. So the trigger has been pulled on this one!

Probably ten years ago, a knife came up that had been made by Devin. I'd never realized that he had been such a fine knife maker - it was bigtime quality fit and finish. Everyone in the world knew about his damascus, but as a knifemaker - I had no clue back then.

Never shoulda let that baby go. Cursed myself more than once for having it depart. It won't happen this time. The huge fella will be around a long time once it's born. Gotta wait for Devin to give it birth. I'll be drooling at the pic of this one until then.

Best,

Bob Betzner

Thanks everyone

I sent it out yesterday. We'll try to get a report on how it cuts from the new owner.
