Feather stick alternatives ?

It was cool, for Florida anyway, this morning. I was out hiking, and wanted a small fire.
My kit had some dryer lint, some fatwood and a matches. Even though it was rainy, cool, windy, and the woods were wet, I had a nice little fire going in no time.
No feather sticks needed.

The only decent thing in my area is the dry wood inside of a larger piece of wood. I made a nice hot fire from cherry the other day. All I had for tinder was black cherry shavings and the used slight larger split peieces when it was going. It was misting rain and everything was soaking wet, I had to cut some shavings then move them to my pocket to stay dry.
