Thanks man. Surprised me too. Oh well, looks like I still have a 12 and 20 to use, haha.
 
Ah, ok, will try green (defeats the purpose, but prettier??) And lock my arm more. Less slice, more push-cut like a chisel?

I wanted to test/compare edge geometries with this as a test, but it was clear there were several unknown variables in play...
 
The green wood is to actually practice on, it won't actually work as fire tinder. All of my edges get thinned out a bit and it helps with the feather sticking part.
