Long grained wood, take your time.

A thin, sharp edge helps too. Push from the shoulder, instead of extending your arm.

Also, green wood is WAY easier to featherstick than seasoned wood!

Ah, ok, will try green (defeats the purpose, but prettier??) And lock my arm more. Less slice, more push-cut like a chisel?

I wanted to test/compare edge geometries with this as a test, but it was clear there were several unknown variables in play...

The green wood is to actually practice on, it won't actually work as fire tinder. All of my edges get thinned out a bit and it helps with the feather sticking part.

I've used green wood several times. Make them early, use them later. They dry out fast.
