Feds Fine Spyderco...

Then how, exactly, does BM get away with it? Or is it a problem that they imported the parts, and if they'd made the parts here they'd be fine?

Ahh....my tax dollars at work :jerkit: ...

Ridiculous! You can probably transport them via truck, but you can't "mail" them.

This is what Immigrations and Customs is doing? Cracking down on butterfly knives! How about those illegal laborers standing on the street corner looking for jobs? Again, Americans get screwed, while illegals get away with using and abusing the system.

They should change the laws, you can buy a .44 magnum at 18, but butterfly knives are still illegal!! In terms of proportions of knife related crimes, how often is a serious offense (doesn't include mailing) committed with a butterfly knife? I would think a kitchen knife is much worse. If someone wanted to mess up a person, a bowie is much deadlier than any other kind of knife -but those are legal.

Totally rediculous. but most anti-weapon laws are.
I can go out and buy a german made semi-auto handgun
but if Spyderco imports and mails butterfly knives
then they must be supporting the terrorists or something.
It's so amazingly stupid I'm ashamed.
If these are the types of laws that are put in place to 'protect' us
then we may as well hand over the country now.

I wish "ICE" worked as hard on securing our borders from illegal aliens as they do on covert butterfly knife stings.

Maybe if we could just get the illegal aliens to transport a few butterfly knives across the border when they sneek in, then maybe "ICE" would pay attention.

I'm really sorry to hear about this, Sal you have my sympathy.

I wonder why ICE singled out Spyderco? It seems like butterfly knives are available anywhere, and most are imported and/or mailed.

This sickens me as well.

I've been thinking about buying a Chinook for the last 6 months, now I definitely will. It's the least I can do to show my support.

Not sure, but I believe the spirit of the law here is to keep "imported" balis out. BM's are made in the USA and therefore do not fall under those restrictions.

Still, this does suck the big one. I'm suprised Sal's lawyers didn't do a better job of keeping him out of this mess.

When I read things like this it makes me sick to my stomache. We can hand over the country and sell out to foreign markets but let one honest tax paying American citizen try and make a buck and the g-men are all over them. Makes me wonder what the hell I am fighting for.

It seems to me that we are under a mountain of knife laws that are out-dated, unrealistic, ineffective, paranoid, etc, etc, ... This is a bigger problem, IMHO, at the state level and local level than the federal level. They are all bad though! New Mexico has very vague but sweeping knife laws and if there is a city or county knife law it is more restrictive than the state law. We do host, harbor, employ, etc ... many, many illegal aliens all the time and it would be very easy for a terrorist to slip through ... but "OH MY GOD KATY BAR THE DOOR LITTLE JOHNNYS' GOT A KNIFE" ... sad man ... just sad ...

WOOK

How come butterfly is banned in US? more dangerous than any other kind of knives?

Rant on.

honestly, because the people who made the law
are absolutely clueless. That's it... ban automatics,
gravity knives, and butterfly knives... that'll keep
the crazies at bay. WTF?
How about let me decide what I want to buy and use
and have the gov't worry about more pressing issues
like the mess we've made in Iraq. The gov't has
the problem solving ability of a 5 year old. "Looks evil me scarred
must ban."

Rant off.

According to Justice Department statistics, knives are used in 70% of all violent crime, and desperate housewives in domestic disputes constitute the majority of that.

Yes, the knife laws are out of whack.
