Feds Fine Spyderco...

Once again we see how the only ones affected by this sort of BS are the ones who adhere to the law in the first place. I agree with you all; truly sad.

The question is:

Will this episode end up in a Cold Steel ad?

ie. "Don't get ripped off by criminals"--a picture of a guy in a striped suit behind bars, etc. as in the Cold Steel/Strider ad.

Not sure, but I believe the spirit of the law here is to keep "imported" balis out. BM's are made in the USA and therefore do not fall under those restrictions.

Still, this does suck the big one. I'm suprised Sal's lawyers didn't do a better job of keeping him out of this mess.

No the "spirit" of the law is the same as the federal anti-switchblade law passed in 1958 or sometime around then. Just, under federal and customs law the bali is a switchblade. So, that's where the spirit of the law lies, as crappy as it is.

So, then, the question is if we'll all just end up like our cousins across the pond in the UK, or if we'll actually be able to do something about it?

After all, laws are made by lawmakers, and who elects them into office?

LOL! That made me laugh! Especially since Spyderco trumps coldsteel 10-fold. Thanks for the humor:thumbup: . To many people act to seriously when a situation such as this deserves a laugh.

More fed bs......I just got good reasons to buy more Spydies

Wanted more Spydies anyway. Just an excuse to the wife to move up my Delica and Salt purchase dates. She doesn't know it yet, but "earlier purchase dates" translates into more knives overall. I really like Sal and Kristy and their customer service. And brand loyalty is something that grows with time and experience. Spyderco's attitude towards its customer is clearly laudable. I have never heard an anecdote about Sal or any Spyderco employee pressuring a vendor. That does not compare with some other vendors. Thank you Sal. You are a class act.

So now these a$$holes have $400,000 worth of Spyderco Balisongs? And I wonder what's gonna happen to them now...i'm thinking recylcing :( or even sale somewhere else possibly (unlikely but you never know what they'll do to make a buck)

I did see that article a few weeks ago and have since moved up the date of purchase for my Tasman Salt and added a knife to purchase I normally would not be buying (Scorpius).

Just trying to support the good companies around here.

 To me buying early means more Spyderco knife purchases overall. And higher sales both helps to offset the fine and enrich my collection.

I wish they were as concearned about our borders as they are about parts counts and stuff. :jerkit: Spyderco has never been my thing but I think I will have to get one now.

Aw you guys just don't get it.

Ya gotta think of who's easier to CATCH.

Sal............ or an illegal alien slipping into the country?

Think of how much more votes a politician will get for busting a BUSINESSMAN than for stemming the drain on an illegal war in Iraq. And how much EASIER it will be to get the COMMENDATION!

Turning into quite a pukey country.
