Hey all,

I decided to take a stab at a design for my personal grail folder. My aim in this design was to create a butter smooth button lock flipper that will be used for light to medium tasks where a very sharp knife would be useful.

In particular I'd like to know:
  • What you think of the design in the context of the purpose stated above
  • Your opinion on which materials to use for this type of blade
  • If this is undoable on my own, which makers would you recommend for this type of blade? I've looked at Ferrum Forge so far

Any feedback or constructive criticism is welcome, however!

First I'd say get the Bob Terzuola book, if you can't find a real book, there are downloads including here on BF
in the "Google books thread"

Second it looks like your blade is longer than your handle.

Especially if you want to use the bearing pivot, you need more room around the pivot
As it is now the handle at the ricasso is far too short, you need more meat around the pivot.

Make up some templates of the blade and handle separately and use ta thumb tack as a pivot hole to see how the relationships fit.

I don't see the mechanics of your lock illustrated.

You will need to layout the lock, stop and pivot relationship to determine if the design will work.
