Feedback on the Buck 124?

Nice elk. Does that feel less blocky than the micarta? I thought about thinning mine out but I can't get myself to do it... Especially since I got Chuck Buck to sign it at the factory sale a few years back. I was hoping for 5160 so I could use it and in turn, not feel guilty about modifying it.

It's still a blocky handle. Keep an eye out for a more rounded version.

I owned one and sold it - a 124, not a pit bull. In the end, I discovered that I wasn't enough man for it. :D

Two things wrong with that, Makael.

1. I don't know you have a pit bull.

2. I didn't send any "antagonizing message" looking for a response.......I sent a humorous message about the 124 used in self-defense.

Oh, yeah........one more......you did overreact, you embarrassed yourself, and.......

3. You should be apologizing to me for your drunken, insulting, name-calling posts on this thread.

Otherwise you got it right.

I agree with MtPokt- if in a true survival situation, i will take extra good care of what few tools I have.

Batoning seems to be the second best way to split a log with a knife. The best way would be using the knife to carve small wedges.

Batoning is kinda fun, but I dont really understand why anyone would do it regularly. I dont use this technique myself. I have a hard enuf time splitting wood with an axe!

I like the buck 103 best, but I admit I would be happy to add a 119, a 120 and of course a 124 to the knife drawer. I would enjoy a larger, beefed up 103, longer, bigger, etc.

I Have searched for info online about the 124 and I have not found anyone who has broken one. Well, except for Tanker in this thread!

It is also interesting that at Copper & Clad you can buy 119s and 120s in various alternate steels like 5160, but the 124 is 420HC only.

13 ounces is kinda heavy for a knife, but not a total joke like a huge Busse chopper-rama.

When is it Buck 124 day on Amazon?!
 
I haven't batoned with any of my 124s. The hollow grind doesn't seem like it would take to well to that kind of treatment. The 124 that I acquired with the broken tip looked like it had also been beaten thru some lumber. The spine was dented up pretty good and the blade had the tell tale markings of splitting wood. I figured that the tip was broken from either prying or possibly being thrown. The pommel was beat up and dented. It is one rugged built knife that is for sure. My only complaint is the blocky handle and I think thats going to be another lil project for me this winter.
