Feel bad for those that missed out on the SAR5's

Look at what that Field Grade went for today. Outrageous! What was that? 3x original price. Unheard of!
(I'm peeved that I didn't get a snake cultie b/c I really didn't want to buy and then have to sell 2 tan ones. And unwilling to pay the "going rate" for one that didn't sell today.)

THAT... Doesn't really surprise or even anger me... They're much older, no longer made, haven't been for quite awhile... From a collector's standpoint, I'd say that the price was fair to a li'l high... I fully expected him to list it on the 'Bay, or mebbe for $500+ here and lower it slowly if no one took it right away...

I know resinguy did something like that once... He was actually selling the knife he had listed at some crazy price... But not for the crazy price he had listed; he just put that price in as a form of humorous 'protest'. towards this very thing... I found it funny as heck. :D:thumbup:

LOL, Please! Don't infract meeeeeeee!!!! :D:D LOL ...Not going to do this, LOL, just makin' a little sarcastic fun at a bad trend. BTW, I like it too much here to start getting all crazy, but shaking up things a little from time to time isn't necessarily a bad thing... ;)

Remember the outrage thrown upon me for the Skelly GW's??? Everyone automatically assumed that I would be listing them on that auction sIte for twice the price without even waiting to see if I would. Now... That very type of situation is actually happening right here with very little reaction... Go figure, huh?? :D

I hear you about the best form of protest is to not pay the price... Which is why I haven't bought off of the Exchange in quite some time. Profit is one thing , but extremely inflated prices on new blades just received is something else completely. :thumbdn:

Was it ResinGuy? I could have sworn it was Walking Man. Oh well, no matter. I do remember the flap over the 27 Skelly GW's. You came close to being tarred and feathered! :D I've heard of heretics who were less reviled at the time. :D

Speculators are always around. It seems as late that things from a recent Ganaza or whatever - pop up high at first - a few sell - then as more come into the market the price drops down to cost plus a little - not sure with the freight involved that anyone is gouging the market much.

Miss a Ganaza? Want a blade? - wait a month or two and see the initial secondary market prices drop - The Buy! :)

I guess we all gotta pay for the high gas prices. Maybe Busse should limit the number of knives they sell to one person during a Ganza, that might make things more fair.

Ah say, ah say, that's a joke son. A joke. Don'cha know a joke? (Boy's about a sharp as a bag of wet mice.)

(I love Foghorn Leghorn. LOL)

(And I'd have paid $500 for the boomerang. Just b'cuz.)

It hurts when you want something that is not available. Even more so if you KNOW that someone else is sitting on a pile of them waiting to turn a buck on your misfortune. However, that is the nature of the beast. Look at the housing market. Price will go down as those that overbought unload. However, if this is truely a despised pattern that will never be produced again, I doubt any "speculator" is in danger of losing money.

One other thing to consider is that by Jerry's own addmission the ganza price of the SAR5 was ~$60 below the expected MSRP of a standard offering- because he wanted to move them fast. The willingness of some to pay ~$100 over the ganza price may reflect this to some extent.

CLOSE... Is an understatement!! Joan of Arc felt less heat than I did... LOL

I have no problem with someone marking up an older knife that hasn't been made in a while, we all know how those go. It does peeve me a lot when I see something that was for sale at a Ganza being marked up 2 days after posts start showing up on the board that the knives are being received. As for the SAR, it didn't appeal to me so I don't have a dog in this fight.

My advice is the same as always, don't like the price or the seller, don't buy. That is the most effective form of protest you can offer.

+1. I take it a bit further, if I see someone marking up a knife a crazy amount right after it's been released then I make a note to not ever buy anything from them. Yes, I'll cut my nose off to spite my face :D.

The big problem with that is it would work if everyone went along with it. However, very often there's someone that wants it bad enough to pay the asking price.

Well said, same thought's here.

There are already a couple of people on my "not to buy from" list. I'm sure they are great people, I just don't want their offerings as much as they do.

I do the same

it really kills me. It is one thing when you thin your heard out years after the model was made, and the prices are way higher. It is another when some one buys a bunch just to sell them a week later at a much higher price. Flippers. The same with concert tickets. or anything else for that matter.

When the Game wardens were real Hot few guy use to buy extras just to post on the exchange pretty much at cost plus shiping so that when a buyer did a search for the value of a knife they would find a sale at about cost.

That really helps when people leave the sale prices in there

I saw this same thing happen with a DVD release when Best Buy put out an exclusive set of "Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection Vol 2." That day, I went by the Best Buy about noon (early as I could) and every copy had been purchased, most of them (about 15) by the same person. Checked the other Best Buy in the area and found - the same thing. Go home, check Ebay. Yep, there they are, being sold for twice cost or more.

I asked the manager at the second store about the issue, he could care less, though he seemed a bit unhappy when I talked to him some more. Went home, wrote a letter to Best Buy corporate, never heard back.

However, it appeared that Best Buy had more in their supply system, because they did get more in, and they still had some in stock in the local stores last I saw. However, you see what can happen with limited supply. It's a real problem with concert tickets these days, ditto with some sports game tickets.

Telling me, man? I was in NYC recently and wanted tix for opening day at Yankee Stadium. My first Yankee home game in the last season of Yankee Stadium's existence. I paid 115$ apiece for 2 bleacher tix. The people sitting around me pid 12$ a ticket.

On "the-site-which-shall-not-be-named" there's a woman selling SFNO's which were purchsed at Knob for WAAAAAAAY over retail. Sometimes almost 100% more. It sucks for me because I can't get up to any of those shows, so the ONLY way for me to grab a knife like that is on the secondary market.

When I got into knives, I had no idea I would ever spend 750$ on a blade, much less any more than that. I got myself an Emerson and thought that was ridiculously expensive. Then I found this subforum and some fat woman on the other side of the world started singing so loud I was hearing her in my sleep.

I own some beautiful knives. Just tonight I did the "I'll take it" dance to the tune of 900$ for a knife I KNOW cost much less than that new. Again, I know I shouldn't be paying those ridiculous secondary market prices, but it's a custom in a style not often seen. If I want the knife, I hafta pay what is being asked. The guy who I'm buying it from payed a ridiculous price for it too. I guess that's just the way it goes.

I will say this, though: I think this'll be my last knife for a good, long while, and the ONLY reasons I'm doing it are because my 30th is coming up and I'm getting some help on the knife, and wifey and I just found out there's a good chance we WON'T have to do IVF in order to conceive.

Even if I do get another knife sometime in the not-too-distant future, it will most-likely NOT be on the secondary market. The mark-ups are just too high.

I'm not holding it against anybody, but I will hold my wallet tighter. Now I see what it takes to be a hog, and I don't know if I've got it.
