it really kills me. It is one thing when you thin your heard out years after the model was made, and the prices are way higher. It is another when some one buys a bunch just to sell them a week later at a much higher price. Flippers. The same with concert tickets. or anything else for that matter.
Telling me, man? I was in NYC recently and wanted tix for opening day at Yankee Stadium. My first Yankee home game in the last season of Yankee Stadium's existence. I paid 115$ apiece for 2 bleacher tix. The people sitting around me pid 12$ a ticket.
On "the-site-which-shall-not-be-named" there's a woman selling SFNO's which were purchsed at Knob for WAAAAAAAY over retail. Sometimes almost 100% more. It sucks for me because I can't get up to any of those shows, so the ONLY way for me to grab a knife like that is on the secondary market.
When I got into knives, I had no idea I would ever spend 750$ on a blade, much less any more than that. I got myself an Emerson and thought that was ridiculously expensive. Then I found this subforum and some fat woman on the other side of the world started singing so loud I was hearing her in my sleep.
I own some beautiful knives. Just tonight I did the "I'll take it" dance to the tune of 900$ for a knife I KNOW cost much less than that new. Again, I know I shouldn't be paying those ridiculous secondary market prices, but it's a custom in a style not often seen. If I want the knife, I hafta pay what is being asked. The guy who I'm buying it from payed a ridiculous price for it too. I guess that's just the way it goes.
I will say this, though: I think this'll be my last knife for a good, long while, and the ONLY reasons I'm doing it are because my 30th is coming up and I'm getting some help on the knife, and wifey and I just found out there's a good chance we WON'T have to do IVF in order to conceive.
Even if I do get another knife sometime in the not-too-distant future, it will most-likely NOT be on the secondary market. The mark-ups are just too high.
I'm not holding it against anybody, but I will hold my wallet tighter. Now I see what it takes to be a hog, and I don't know if I've got it.
