My boy and I just got back from the cut formerly know as the Gilcrest Rollover pass(pre Ike). We caught thirty four legal crabs one speck that was just two inches to small(thirteen and has to be 15), and two sand trout. I took pics of the crabs but gave them to my boss bc i did not want to clean them.....:D. Of coarse we are both sun burnt and half dehydrated but we had fun. I am gonna try and take him at least a couple of more times before school starts back up for him......Drew

I'm hungry for crab now. Damn you.

Sounds like a really fun day. I would have boiled them up for dinner, but that is just me.

We are only fifteen minutes from the gulf. You do get tired of cleaning these little suckers. We usually clean them sprinkle them with tonys and old bay them deep fry them. If I could have caught a couple of keeper fish to go with them i would have kept them. they are fun and easy to catch and my boy probably caught more than i did which made is day.......All the way home it was "daddy i caught more than you didn't I". ,,,,,,Drew

mmmmm...crabs.

Mrs. Spark is working on some red beans and rice right now. That'd be a good combo!

I love crab, but what is the process to clean them? Honestly I thought you just boiled them, broke them open and pulled out the meat.....Of course I live in the center of Canada so my experience in capture crabbing is limited to business trips to Baltimore :D

Every time I've had small crabs like that, it was always in asian restaurants where they boiled them whole.

That is how we do it in Virginia with blue crab. You have to be careful about what you eat from the inside though. Not all of it is very good for you.

It simple just tedious. Pull off the shell and spray out the body with a water hose. sprinkle with tony's and old bay then fry em up. I like them boiled but it is to hard for the kids to shuck their own plus i do like em better fried(because they are seasoned with bbq seasoning we call them bbq'd if you ever order any down south....

Damn Man, I'll be your boss next time.:D

Blue crab is maybe my favorite food. In my younger days, I worked as a waiter at a restaurant named Steamed Blues in Phoenix that specialized in crabs.
They were the best I have ever had and they boiled them whole with Old Bay seasoning. Boil for 6 mins and they are ready. Peel the top shell off. Inside, scrape the guts away and grab just above where the legs meet the body and crack the crab in half so you have two symmetrical sides. The meat will be separated by shell compartments, so you break them by finding where they are, then firmly cracking and rolling your hands so that the meat stays on the leg of the crab.
Add beer and fries with malt vinegar and you have a slice of heaven...

drew,
Wut part of SE tx are you in? i was born and raised in Beaumont and have spent MANY a days fishin and crabbin the cut! i was actually down at crystal yesterday fishin the surf. caught some nice whiting and few rat reds! i guess a crabbing trip in on the agenda now thanks to you! good catch!

C'mon dude, don't do this to me. I'm a sucker for crab and it's very hard to come by in these parts.
