Thank you all for the info and tips.
I started all over again (in the meantime, since my last sharpmaker experience, my knives got really dull). I grabbed a short 4 knife, a sharpie, a 10x loupe and lots of patience.
For starters, when I inspected the edge of the knife with the loupe, I realized that it had a few nicks. I marked the edge with the sharpie and started to sharpen the knife with the diamond rods at a 30 degree angle. It took me away over 20 passes to get rid of those nicks (I actually lost count, but I guess it was more than 100 on each side). I finally got rid of the nicks but the sharpie revealed two knew problems:
- Im getting a double edge near the tip of the blade (it starts to show up at about 3/8 from the tip)
- Im not managing to get the first 1/2 of the blade sharpened. I try to start as close as possible to the very beginning of the edge, but that first 1/2 still stays dull.
Im waiting for advice on these 2 problems to move on to the brown rods.
Thanks.
