Feels so good

I recently got ahold of a basic 5 which I can’t afford just so I could see it in person and hold it. I fell in love then sold it. Man, that handle and blade shape. Anyway, I keep seeing this D3V 61.5 HRC in that DEK3 blade, and I actually feel like I NEED it in my hand. I’ve got a problem. For one, there aren’t any, and second, I am an addict. Thanks for listening. Feel free to remove since this is probably somehow against some rule.

Yeah, we're going to set back up and do another run of the field knives. I made almost a thousand of them and I thought there would be plenty for shelf stock but that didn't happen so I'm going to make some more while we're still set up for it.

I'm also going to do some heat treat development work over the winter and the basic 5 makes a very good test mule for development work

The basic 5 is a really good deal. I'd say save up and try to get one again

The DEK3 is hard to come by and when they're for sale second hand they've been anywhere from $600 to $1000 iirc.

CPK pretty much replaced every other fixed blade knife I had. I have zero regrets about it. Their knives are about as good as it gets.

Buy once, cry once. You'll never need another field knife.

It is absolutely worth every penny

I think everyone expects a maker to sing the praises of their knives, but in this case, what Nathan says is 100% true. I did an exhaustive destruction test of an FK1 a few years back. At the time, I already had experience with many MANY other knives and brands, at least one of which has a no-questions-asked-if you-break-it warranty. In fact, I still have and use some of those knives, but if my life literally depends on what knife I'm carrying, I want a CPK with me. If I can only ever have one knife for the rest of my life, I want a CPK with me. If someone else needs a knife but can only afford one, yep...only CPK gets the nod. One CPK truly is all you will need in life for a knife. Others may be slightly better in some way, but overall, CPKs are the best.

I say save up and buy another CPK. Don't look back and for God sakes, don't sell it. Keep it, love it, and use the hell out of it.

I like my BFKs in 3v and MC they are wonderful but I LOVE my DEK1s. They feel so natural in the hand. I’ve been using one in the kitchen. For me if I could only have one CPK it would be the DEK1. Or the edc1. Or the upcoming edc. Or…..What am I thinking I will have more than 1.

This ^

I’d add some luck your way to actually find a DEK for sale and being quick enough to buy

Serious question for you, as I know you have a lot of BFK experience: does the swedge and 1oz weight reduction of the FK3 tempt you, or not ?
Not really, the swedge doesn't really matter to me other than for aesthethic purposes and I'm never going to feel the difference of an ounce when it's strapped to my belt. Maybe using it for really extended purposes it might get noticeable, but I've used much heavier knives for long chopping sessions and never had a problem.
