Hi,

I've the same problem as all of you. I need very strong, tough, sharp knife so which is the best : Fehrman with nice cpm-3v steel, Busse with shiny lovely blades and INFI steel or Tops knives with 1095 high carbon steel?

Besides, which steel is the most resistance and toughnest?

Thx for answers.

Let me be first . . .

Buy all three! :D

Seriously, all of the manufacturers you mentioned produce "very strong, tough, sharp knife". I'll also throw in knives manufactured by ESEE, Swamp Rat, and Scrap Yard. If you want "very strong, tough, sharp knife" on a budget, take a look at the Ka-Bar Beckers and the Ontario Rangers. That should keep you busy for awhile.

Busse factory edges are not any better than Ontario...you have to pay extra to get a shiny one also.

You'll probably do best with Bark River, ESEE, and Fallkniven for a fixed blade knife that is tough, sharp, and functional blade geometry without paying for extra cool looks or bulk.

Some are, some aren't....

They are all the best.

But the BESTEST is de RAZR!

Kind regards,

Jos

I wouldn't put TOPS in the same category as Busse or Fehrman. On a subjective basis, I don't even like TOPS. But you can't go wrong with either of the other two. I own several Busses, and have handled a couple Fehrmans. They are both real tanks.

Zero Tolerance has a fun knife in their CPM-3V ZT 0100. There's a few vids at youtube on it.

Lot of nice knives out there.

zt 0100 thickness is 0.19" XXX. knife must be at least with 1/4"

That might hold true for some weaker steels for some harsh applications but in this case you might not appreciate the value of 0.19" 3V for a good overall knife. Now if you want to say it's too short for your application, that might be a valid complaint.

The thinner the steel the better it will cut. Since the knives you are after both have very excellent steel getting a thinner blade would be a better choice. Also, i'd go with a fehrman over a busse. I think they are priced more fairly. IMHO

Besides, sorry for my language. I am lithuanian, far far away from you :D

Jus net neisivaizduojat nei ka as rasau nei ka galvoju apie jus. :D

bld522, I all wacthed yet :D and wondering why there isn't fehrman or tops knives ... after all these knives are enough strong for this tests.

I can't answer that question. But I doubt anyone has destroyed more knives than noss has. Based on the results of the tests he's conducted so far, the answer you're looking for seems pretty clear to me.

No less of an authority on knives than Mike Stewart has said it far better than I could. "Jerry Busse makes some of the toughest knives on the planet." If you need a tougher knife than a Busse knife, you may need to look for one on another planet.

No, it's not. What I think you're trying to say is you need a thicker blade so you can abuse the heck out of it. Sticking it in a piece of wood & then smacking the heck out of it, doesn't prove a knife is superior as far as cutting performance goes. It only proves that it's great for using as a glorified pry bar, which you can pick-up far cheaper than ANY of the knives you're considering.

As for your actual question, I'd say of the 3 you mentioned, the Busse or Infi steel Bussekin are the way to go. Why, because Infi, while not stainless, is more stain/rust resistant than 3V & 1095, along with excellent edge holding & being a very tough steel, too.

The posts about thinner blades is more about slicing ability than with toughness. Thicker blades are generally not going to slice as well as a thinner one.

Tops, ESEE, Ka-Bar Becker, Ontario (Spec Plus, certain Ranger Knives, etc), & I'm sure others makes decent 1/4" thick or more knives in 1095. They'll all work just fine, but I think if $ is no object & you want better edge holding & stain resistance, too, then I'd suggest a Bussekin knife in Infi.

However, many of the other suggestions are excellent. Fallkniven makes some excellent FBs in laminated stainless, which would be a good choice if stain/rust resistance & cutting ability are more important than pure toughness.

Good luck in your choice &, oh yeah, welcome to BladeForums.
