Felling a tree with a M-43

I just arrived home in South Louisiana, and decided to remove one of three trees on my to do list. I thought this would be a great opportunity for the M-43 to step up. I realize a larger blade would chop with greater ease, but I tend to lean toward the kuks that can fit in a backpack, and weigh between 20 and 27oz - depending on the model.

This particular M-43 is 15", and weighs 27oz. What I like about the M-43 is the curvature of the handle. I like the way it feels in the hand. Each swing feels natural.

I like the wider pommel on the M-43. It rides the heel of my hand with each swing, and makes the entire kukri feel very secure.

I had honed the edge to paper-slicing hair-popping sharp before I started this venture. The cuts were deep.

As hot and humid as it is in South Louisiana, i dropped this small tree, before I broke a sweat.

Less than 10 strokes on a steel, and the edge is back to paper-slicing hair-popping sharp. The M-43 not only cuts and chops like a pitbull-termite hybrid, it looks great too. I like the bow of the spine. It gives the M-43 a more graceful appearance. That's appropriate for a tree devouring pitbull-termite hybrid.

Thanks Auntie. You did good. Tell Kumar, I said thanks too.

Very nice photos.
And very impressive...i notice you did not show the front of your house after dropping the tree, though? (Wink!)

GOTTA get me one of those...

I have seen this, and I would never attempt it. Only because I don't have near the skill set this guy has. It's a cool vid.

Your photos are far better....excellent in showing why it is a cool knife and works so well as an axe as well...

I'd like to see a tree cutting duel between a M-43 and a beaver.

Great picks, Dobe! If you like the curved spine on that M43, take a gander at a Curved Spine khuk.

I love mine as Bawanna does his. (It's too bad he's deluded himself thinking he has the bestest Curved Spine on the planet, when in reality I do, but that's another story.) I really enjoy my M43, but honestly, I like the Curved Spines more. I just dig that arc'd blade!

:Good to see some solid field work. Not much on safe queens, but these works of art will take a leap of faith to beat on.

I slammed my "other" kukri without fear. Time will tell. If you had to guess, of the active posters in this sub forum, how Kukri does the average addict have? :D

Oh boy.. I think I'm on khukuri number 9, with 3 other HI knives, one that I've gifted, and 2 blades on order. I got my first about 2 months ago, so I guess you can tell, HIKV got me good!

Now you've done it your now hopelessly addicted!

Hat is why I like my M43's as well, performance!

Addicted?, Me? I think I've picked up 14 in that past 2 months. And yes, the 43 is nice.

You guys are an influence on me. I don't have an M43.......:(.....yet.

Far from it I fear, but I'm working on it. I think the only guy that has em all is maybe Gehazi, Ndog has most of em.

Everytime you think you got everything you need, something new and different comes along. I think that's what they call a vicious circle. A nice vicious circle but a vicious circle just the same. Try typing vicious 3 times, your fingers end up in knots.

Bookie mentioned the Curved Spine. I guess that will have to be mine soon. It's a nice looking blade.

Good example the curved spine, I know this first hand since I have the goodest one contrary to what Bookie might say. I sometimes think his cheese has slipped off his cracker.
I love that knife, and Thamars Yek and Dui Chirra's are right close to it. Feel great, have a nice gracious curve to them.
If it cools a bit this weekend I aim to take a Thamar Yek out for a test chop, couple trees on the place I can get to with my transportation.
