I'm looking at getting my first "good" flashlight and I've narrowed it down to the fenix l2d ce and the ld20 r5. My question is, whats the difference? Does anyone have any experience with either of these? And if you have any other suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance!

The LD20 is a decent lite, 2xaa's..run time decent....little blue of tint for me.

Blazer, the L2D is an older version of the Fenix 2xAA, whereas the LD20 is the current flavor. I don't have specifics on the emitter, output and runtime, but there is little doubt in my mind that the LD20 is superior in these categories. Here is a 2007 review of the L2D.

Unless price is the deciding factor, I would definitely go with the LD20.

The latest and greatest is the Quark X 2xAA with the XM-L emitter (Here). It cranks a crazy 260 lumens on turbo mode. But the LD20 is a great light and there is no reason not to buy it, if its on your short list.

the L2D is great i love it,,i also got the 1 CR123 battery body for it,,,,same light,,,much smaller package,,,as far as good light go i also got the surefire backup,,,thats a great light!!

:thumbup:The LD20 has worked well for me,it exceeded my expectations for it's size and runs on AAs.

So between the fenix and the quark, would it be worth it just to fet the quark if its better and only a little more?

I have the LD20 with R5 and the Quark AA2. They are both very good lights. The Fenix throws a wider beam, not as spotty as the Quark. The Quark will give you a couple more modes, beacon and moonlight.
As Powernoodle mentioned, the X series is new, not sure what that is like. I find the Fenix tail cap a bit more comfortable to use although it's a balancing act to get it to stand on the tail.

Note also that some of these lights have knurling or a design which keeps the light from rolling off the table. Others do not. I much prefer an anti-roll design if I can get it. The ability to tail stand (candle mode) is also nice. Just something to consider.

Does the ld20 have the knurling?

I'm not a torch geek and don't have alot of experiance but I love my ld20. Very bright with dimmer settings if needed. And I'm pretty hard on my and it takes the beating

My step-father and I both have l2d's and we love them. At first he ridiculed me for spending $60 on a flashlight, but next thing I knew, he had one on his Christmas list. I've since upgraded to a PD31, but I keep the l2d (now with a p2d body,) bed-side. Fenix makes some good lights:thumbup:

So Noodle, how ya like that new Quark? That's new one to me.

They a comparable in brightness, output, and modes. The LD20 has more knurling, the anti-roll feature, and pocket-clip. The pocket-clip is a big plus in my opinion.
I've currently got a L2D Q5 (also with P2D and L1D bodies which is nice). I was able to put a clip on it from a 2xAA Rayovac I got from Walmart. The clip means alot to me, but with one on my L2D, I have no burning desire to get the newer LD20.

I have the LD20 R5. Like the light. It´s good to use and has a good handle. In the cold months you can use it without any problems also with gloves.

The aluminium handle is very durable. I let it drop already for about ten times. Nothing to say, no damage in the used glass or something like this. I carry it in my rucksack in the wintermonts. In the jacket is the LD10. A mono-cell flashlight. Nearly the same highness of Lumen. But unfortunately the LD10 doesn´t keep the battery as long the LD20, which is duo-cell flashlight.

The LD20 is a very good, bright and high-end flashlight. I love that one.

I wanted to buy other flashlights, but should I do that? When the optimum in form of LD10 and LD20 is already on my keyboard, jacket or rucksack ;)

Kind regards

The LD20 is good to go. I have been beating the hell out of mine since they first came out. It looks pretty chewed up, but still works great. I also had a Quark 2xAA Tactical that worked fine until a battery leaked into it. I like the interface on the Fenix, but the Quark has the moonlight mode, if that matters to you.

I'd say go with 4sevens instead of Fenix. Same company, but quality/fit and finish are a bit better. Kind of how Lexus is a nicer toyota
