Fenix TK40 630 Lumen Flashlight in Action

I've been following these TK40 threads in WSS and have been pretty impressed with the throw. (Of course, since its already too big for backpacking I'm curious how powerful a 12XAA light would be!)

I'm wondering what the barrell diameter is and if it would fit in any standard weapon (rifle) mounts. I'm also concerned that recoil might cause it to switch from mode ot mode.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I don't think it will fit in any mounts I have seen. But as I understand it, a light needs to be designed to handle recoil or it will get messed up. (I don't think that it would make it switch modes though.) I could be wrong, but I think the only Fenix that is designed to be a weapon light is the TA30.

Thanks for the video.

Looks like a great flashlight.
With that price, lumen output, and runtimes, it sure spanks the hell out of Surefires' M-6 which is powered by 6 CR123 lithium batteries:thumbup:
I love my 2 smaller Fenix flashlights, and that video has me wanting to buy another;)

Mine arrived yesterday PM and I got to try it out last night. I was VERY impressed. :D

Wow! That's a Light Sabre!

I carry the little P3D which puts out 215 lumen's, but that light output is incredible!

Rat was pretty spot on with the info. The TK40 has a fat body, so you would have to rig up your own custom mount if you wanted to get it on a gun. The TK10, 11, 20, and TA30 are the lights are compatible with the picatinny rail mounts and remote pressure switches I stock.

If you want a light that uses a CREE MC-E that you could possibly use with a mount, I just got the Jetbeam M1-X in stock. It has a more narrow body since it uses lithium batteries instead of AAs like the TK40, so you could use it in my gun mounts. It does have a pretty big head though, so you would have to make sure you have enough clearance for it. The body is slightly too small for the mount, but wrapping it in a thin piece of foam would solve that issue.

Anyone else get theirs yet? I saw a bunch of people use the BF coupon, so I am interested to see what other people think of the TK40.

I've been a little busy to do much playing with it, but we did get a good storm through last week and something was rattling on my fence. I did a quick walk around the house with TK40, but no issues. I was very surprised at the throw and how much this handheld lit up the night. I'm using some Ene-Loops that have been charged and sitting for the last 6 months. Even with the excellent distance it throws it has a very good spill to really "open" up the area. Yeah, it's not a packing light, but for vehicle travel and around the house it's a great performer for the price!

I always keep Eneloops in my demo model as well. I heard they were coming out with C and D sized Eneloops over in Japan. I can't wait for them to make it over here.

There is one downside to the flashlight, and it's the only thing that's stopped me getting one (so far...)

It has a parasitic drain on the cells that will drop their charge over time (a few months)

That's no problem at all if you are going to use the light regularly, but if you plan to put it away for occasional use then be sure to remove the cells. Don't rely on unscrewing the tailcap with this one as the contacts are still made at the head.

Other than that, it looks an absolutely fantastic light.

I have the Jetbeam M1X as well that uses the same CREE MC-E LED. I wonder if the Jetbeam does the same battery draining as the TK40...

I can find no indication that the M1X has a parasitic drain, although that doesn't mean that it doesn't. My smaller jetbeams don't though. Unfortunately I don't have one to test.

Parasitic drain is something that tends to annoy me because I don't use my lights regularly, like to keep them ready for emergencies (with expensive primary lithium cells) and parasitic drain is mostly just down to lazy/cheap electronics design. It's not necessary at all.

By the way, congratulations on going full time with your business Storl. If I wasn't a bit stuck for cash right now I would have placed a few more orders.
