I have a cable blade that I etched and did some fit up work on,then decided to re-etch to get it a little nicer...and blamo! Things went waaay wrong I cleaned the blade with acetone 2x first but as soon as it came out of the etch it flash rusted/rust blued!!
Does the temp of the etch make that much of a difference? We had a bit of a heat wave this week

Higher temps will speed up the etching . However a good practice for etching is to soak the blade [ boiling is better] in a solution of baking soda which neutralizes the acid remaining and seems to 'set' the etced blade. Of course a coating of oil or preservative grease should follow.
