I want to play around and make a few fire steel to go with kits and on sheaths. Anyone have a place where I buy 10 - 20 bare rods? Yea I saw some on ebay just don't know the quality.

Thanks,

Campingsurvival.com is a great place to buy gear. Tom is a member on this forum and an avid outdoorsman in his own right.

Another place I just learned of is Bens Backwoods. They have bulk prices on Ferro Rods.

there was this exact thread posted a few days ago. Not sure if you have the search feature enabled or not, but if you go back a page or two you should be able to find it. Although there probably isn't too much of a point as I think the same places talked about in that thread have already been recommended.

I have purchased from Ben's backwoods. Great place, top notch quality.

Check out ebay, they seem to come up there often. Forget the guys name but he always has a few lots up for decent prices.

Thanks for the links folks. Can't believe I missed that thread, I come here pretty often (read several times a day). Was gonna do a search but afraid of all of the matches I would get typing in ferr. Rods.

I've got one of the 10 pack bundles of the 1/4" by 2 1/2" rods coming from Ebay. When I get them in I'll test them and report back on sparking ability.

I wanted them to do some custom handles. Mainly because I can't stand ferro rods in dark or dull color handles. I don't want to drop something so important and not be able to find it in the woods, while cold and dark.

As far as quality, they have always seemed pretty uniform to me, and I have issued hundreds.
