Just a thought. But, has anyone used a ferro rod as a hone? Wondering if it would be any good for a light touch up in the field if nothing else is available. Do it light enough and it might have some effect on the blade without producing sparks? Recurved blades?

Thanks.

basically, it's much softer than the blade and easily carved when the cutting edge touches it.
Sometimes it's long time exposed surface gets oxidized and becomes quite hard though.

Can't help but think that it might have some effect if lightly "stropped" from end of edge at choil at bottom of rod to tip of blade at top of rod with a slight wrist twist.

It'd be very utilitarian if a ferro rod could pull double duty. :-)
