Anybody know of a manufacturer, or bulk supplier??

Ferrocium Rod -- is the full name, of course.

I like these better because they are ALL ferro, rather than Ferro/Magnesium.
The 1/2 inch thick design makes it easier to use, the 4 inch length makes a HUGE shower of sparks, and the size means it doesn't get "lost" in your pack or pocket.

Agreed, this is the one I have, the girth plus the 4" length really allows you to develop a beefy spark.

Oh yeah, officially, it's Ferrocerium

Also called "Mischmetal" if you want to do a Google Search.

Thats a great link and good 411, but I'm more interested in buying a 6' length of it or something like that. $16 for 4" seems steep. I want a manuf. Any ideas?

The only way you are gonna get a 6 ft length is to buy from a wholesale metal co. There are a couple out of China that have good stuff.. There is a couple that will sell you a bulk, but that's gonna be pricey.. Most are between $35 - $45 per kg. They require you to set up a business account, and buy 3 - 4 kg lots. And I haven't seen any at 6 ft lengths.. Most cut it down because it's so brittle, they can't guarantee it will remain whole during shipping!

Hope this helps! Good luck in your search!

I have been all over the internet looking for these. There is a guy on e-bay selling 1/4X3.5 rods pretty cheaply. I want to know where he gets them, but he won't say for sure. Try the bay, you may have better luck than I did.

I saw that Matt. And I'm considering it, but I'd like to just order a boxfull.

When I said 6' lengths I just meant being able to get it as a raw material. I wouldn't mind if they were chopped up. Heck. Odd looking chunks would be fine with me.

You will have to give them a call to see just how much they will sell you, they might require you to buy more then you are ready to buy.

The lady I talked to sent me some end pieces for a very small about IIRC approx $12 for a dozen pieces that were 5" to 6" in length.

ciao
Ron;)

andy- great info. for sure....
