Some rods perform better than others but even the cheapies work well enough to be useful, with practice. I keep a Light My Fire on my keychain and play with/day to day use the five buck (around here) Coughlan's. I did this a couple weeks ago to practice making Youtube vids.

After using firesteel.com, goinggear.com and LMF I've come to prefer the LMF style. I just recently made my own storage handle for one

With a sharp scraper you can get a shower of sparks from slowly scraping, I prefer right now.

Firesteels are great... right up until you injure one arm/hand and need to light them in the rain one-handed.
Small one as a back-up to a Bic, and pray you never need either in an emergency.

Does anybody know what size of rod would fit in this sheath? It's a BRKT Bravo 1.5 sheath. Is there a brand that you other Bravo owners know and use with this sheath? Thanks.

My sheath for a Canadian Special takes a 9mm diameter rod ( a tad under 3/8).
