few pics of my new Brian andrews machete

That choil is large and deep enough that I would feel comfortable having the edge come all the way back to it.

I can see the edge transition and it is very smoothly done. Nice work!

Brian,

You can see the change in the convex very clearly in the second photo, it does look much higher.

I don't know how I would feel about having the edge come right onto the choil. It would make it easier to sharpen the full length of the edge. You don't chop with your hand in that position so there is not a great likelihood of cutting your finger but the way you have it on his blade is safer.

I'd love to hear people's opinions who have had a chance to field test these blades. That video has been getting 75 - 100 hits a day. Since I put it up its had 21,500 views. Mac

The only negative I can see with the choil is from the way I use the machete in heavy brush. When you get hung up in vines across your legs it is best to flip the blade edge up, slide it under the vines and pull up to cut. I use the sharp edge at the base of the blade for this all the time, its much safer to do this than chop downwards into all that mess near your legs. I think the choil would snag when doing this.

Every mod you do on a blade is a trade-off usually. The scandi edge itself trades some strength for sharpness. Mac

Good point Pict, For me up here the abiltiy to chop and carve, take priority over vine clearing... well at least so far.. never say never.
