Take three!

You all saw Take One -- the BK-17 made out of a FFG BK16 that is now somewhere in the world on a pass-around. Last seen in the mitts of Thrillbilly. That one got polished for the sake of making a good impression at the intro here.

That posting generated a sale of another one similar to it (Take Two). I was hesitant to do more polishing, so a Forum member asked me to do the grinding and he'd do the rest. He's Air Force stationed overseas in an unknown country that's "...real hot with a big beach but no water." He has a lot of time to kill so he'll be doing the polishing on his off time. To make the package more palatable, I researched what kind of camo the AF is using now and made him a set of DuraCoated scales to sort-of match his uniform.
Did you know they went to an almost VietNam-era Tiger Stripe? I didn't either...

While I was mixing the coating I figured I'd do up another whole knife for myself in the same colors and pattern. But since designs evolve over time, this one is a little different besides the color, so I thought I'd share with you.

OK, Ta-Da-a-a-a! Take Three!

Also included in this package is aftermarket micarta obtained via Flea Bae that I'd been holding for something appropriate. I think it goes with the camo fairly well.

BK-17 - style clip point, even though it started life as a drop-point -16. Swedges, also. I'm getting better at it.

OK, so who are the eagle-eyed ones among us? What's different?

Note the jimping. Lots deeper than the stock jimping, with the additional feature of the thumb radius for comfort and additional grip. You can get a huge purchase on the top of the blade now.

So there you have it. Not an earth-shattering change from last time, but enough to warrant a post.

I never cease to be amazed at the creativity and talent of the members on this forum.

Excellent work once again.

Hey, nice variation! I bet there's gonna be a LOT of these.... :-)

I'm liking the radius on the jimping. How did you do them, file, dremel, or what?

Wow, K9 that is beautiful!! Don't drop it in the woods! :D

NOW I'm growing even more impatient! The feller in the mail room is gonna get sick of me.

So I guess the pressure is on to treat your creation well and make sure the end product of all that sand-dune stabbing is worthy. :o

FINALLY! It's here, and I am LOVING IT! Sorry it took me so long to get these pictures taken and posted! This is beautiful!
The FFG 16 of which K9 was referring in the OP:

next to the 15; notice the wicked cool blasted (now very grippy!) and duracoated scales the 15 is now wearing courtesy of K9 they may be hard to tell from the stock peanut butter scales in this picture, but they are WAY better in the hand!:

in their sheaths. I pulled out the plastic liner from the FFG's sheath, inserted a small piece of thin cardboard, folded and tied the sheath end back to shorten it. The fit is much better now.

Mr. Handler threw in some toys with my order along with some wet sand paper to keep me entertained over here!

What can I say? I am impressed with K9's work and generosity! Now to get to work on that already beautiful finish...
THANK YOU!!

I must say I really do think that the combo of FFG and clip looks best together. Very nice!

I actually DID know that about their camo pattern changing. It was decided the "digital" pattern was too blocky so all the forces are changing back to a stripey pattern I believe.

That knife is awesome man. Love the radial jimping and the sexy clip.

I can't see the blade ...:p

Looks awesome, I'd love to find out more on the micarta scales. So the brown zytel scales were just sandblasted? sounds like a good idea! Thanks for posting this.
