These trainers were made by the best balisong makers currently still making 29s the traditional way: they have 3/16" 300-series stainless blades so no rust worries and they aren't going to crack or snap if dropped hard. They're not for flipping, of course, since the blades are made to precisely fit within the liners and will hit them if flipped closed. They're made exclusively for practicing openings and sparring with a partner.
The comb with the skeletonized handles is sandwich construction: I believe all skeletonized-handle balis were originally inspired by the brass sandwich construction FHMs with countersunk holes that have been around since the 70s.
