Hey guys! I just made some My-carta with this press, check it out!

I'm going to do a pictorial thread on it as well, the bottom line is these are great. It was really easy to use and the final product is top notch. I have made a bunch of micarta with home made presses and this very first batch came out better than anything I have done before. :D Flat, even and no mess! I hope this helps some of you that want to get into making your own handle materials, it is a lot of fun.

:) Can someone please help me embed this here, I can't seem to get it working! Big thanks!

I really would have liked to watch you pour the epoxy, wrap it and fit it in the press. It seems like you skipped the important parts of the video. Thanks for the review, though.

Charles, I had hoped to get that part in the video. The take came out unusable and I couldn't really repeat it. I'm also a bit scared to get any epoxy on my camera in case I missed some. I'm going to do a pictorial thread also.

I just mix and dunk as opposed to rolling the epoxy on or using a spreader, there is a bit more waste that way but it goes nicely and everything gets a bit of a soak.

No mess - epoxy can be messy but this refers to the pressing part... any extra epoxy squeezes out of the ends and does not contaminate the press. I had tried other methods and it is either tricky to squeeze excess epoxy out or it just goes everywhere.

edit - thanks for the honest commentary! I think my new video will be much better

Here's the part I missed. I hope this helps!

I poured the two part epoxy and mixed for a minute.

After that I soaked all of the burlap for a minute or two. I then squeezed the epoxy out of each strip by hand wearing gloves. Stack on the pan lining paper.

Wrap... put in press, put on lid and tighten with a 9/16" wrench.

Thanks Shane!

I have a much better video uploading right now, I did everything in essentially one take and captured the whole process.

Nice review. Will this be your go-to method of making up scales for micarta? Will that black burlap be used soon?

And just one thing: nuts.. you took off the nuts! :D bolts are long :D That is about as technical as I get though, so I'm just messin' with ya :)
