Fiddleback Camp Knife - Quest for the Ultimate Camp Knife = Success!!

Congratulations on a beautiful, functional Camp Knife! Andy does some killer work and I'm glad to see yours being used out there!

Great review and awesome pictures, My camp knife has always been around a 9 to 11 inch blade and when I scored my Busse NMFSHCG in the Santa Ganza, I figured I was all set, But I have to admit that I still had one of Andys' Camp knives on my mind, After seeing your review, I may have to get one. Besides, A person can never have too many knives, Right?
Thanks for sharing!!!

I have three of these cut.

Slap some Tuxedo Config handles (black canvas micarta with natural canvas and a white pinestrip, natural pins and natural bullseye) on one of those suckers and I will GLADLY take it off your hands!!! :D I've had my eye on the Camp Knives since first stumbling on Fiddleback Forge and I've known for sure that I NEED one since Heber got his and gave it a thumbs up. I've been eyeing the Camp Knife and the Competition Cutter on and off but I think the Camp Knife is the more practical of the two for my intended usage.

Who knows, with one of these bad boys maybe I would finally be able to leave my axe at home? My uncles always told me that a Canadian in the woods without an axe is no Canadian at all but hey, they never met the likes of the Camp Knife :p

On a related note, a few months back they had a really wonderful, full height grind Camp Knife with a hand rubbed finish up on Knives Ship Free (there is still a Hand Rubbed Competition Cutter available there that was posted at the same time). Would you ever consider making a Camp Knife like that again Andy or are they more hassle than they're worth?

The camp knife sure is cool. The Balance is different then I'm used to with my 5" and 9" knives, but it works.

My 5/32" thick camp knife weights 1 pound according to my postage scale and the balance point is at the end of the handle scales. How does that compare to the 3/16" thick ones?

Curious about that myself. I would think it would be just a hair further forward, but would also depend on the grind.

That camp knife is damn nice. I love that spalted texture Andy  Did you see that fod is back in business selling laminates? He's got some pretty cool stuff on the exchange.

Cheers

IActually spoke to todd before he posted those and ordered 4 sheets. Woot!

As cool as my camp knife is, I'm tempted to sell or trade it. Here's why: I normally carry a ~5 inch fixed blade on trips and the Camp knife is to durn close in size. Plus I also normally have a Machete or Khukri lashed to my pack. If I carried my KPH more, the Camp knife would compliment it nicely. But I don't so, I'm tempted to sell or trade it.

For anyone that likes a ~7 inch blade, The Camp knife is sweet!!

Man, this thread really plays to my masochistic side. I'm still trying to decide if it's more pleasure or more pain :)

Its a good thread. The Camp knife was a hard sell for me at 5/32" thick. In addition, it was harder to make by a long shot. So, I went up to 5/32" thick. Though, I do have some 5/32 x 2" wide bars now....

LG, how is the Bushie doing? Any new news?
