Fiddleback for Fishing

The knife designed for this is the F2 but since you don't seem interested, I assume you don't need to make perfect filets and that the purpose of the knife will be more gutting and multi-use than just filleting the fish?

The best recommendation would be the ladyfinger. It is the original Fiddleback Bird & Trout Knife. It is big enough to deal with the larger trout and/or Salmon, with a blade just over 4" instead of the smaller F2 blade.

The issue is that there don't seem to be many custom knives made in Stainless from Fiddleback. I am really partial to having a nice handle. I bought an A2 ladyfinger that has yet to be used for trout, but I carry it and have it ready for when I get a chance. What I REALLY want is a STAINLESS ladyfinger with custom handle. And this is why I'm still checking forums regularly.

If you want to filet the fish, a filet knife is really the way to go... but I am not sure if the F2 is thin like a filet knife?

Instead of butchering the trout, why not just use a fillet knife???

Any excuse to justify purchasing another Fiddleback? :indecisiveness:

Not that I am not interested in an F2. I just know that they are few and far between. A2 Ladyfingers does seem like a good option though.

I would like a 3/32 F2 personally. I don't do much fishing anymore these days though.

I ended up picking up a Esquire 01 tool 1/8 with canvas handle and Im loving it an works great for all my needs. Im still waiting for a CPM Esquire to come down the pipe. Wishful thinking I know. Just a little tip if you can't get your hands on a CPM Fiddleback an you want to pick one up just use a little PAM on the blade.

All of these S35VN Fiddlebacks work well, but the Ladyfinger is 1/8" while the others are 5/32" so it is my go to fresh water fishing knife.

Cool cool cool. Thanks for the tip. It's definitely good to know.

Awesome! I'll take that one. :D

The Tequila Sunrise Ladyfinger in the 12/18 post is A2 with a tapered tang and would have a really nice balance and feel to it.

NoFair: I'll be looking out for a stainless 1/8" Ladyfinger. Looks like the perfect fishing knife! Guess this forum will be expensive for me...

Don't over complicate it. A regular HB is just fine. :)

In fresh water I agree totally. Just normal maintenance and the O-1 does fine. But after what happened to my two German made stag handled hunting knives in high carbon steel after we moved to Tampa when I was a kid, I don't take my O-1 knives near the ocean :)

For fishing I want a thin blade which is a bit over 10cm (4")...

Is the Ladyfinger and Recluse ever made from 3/32" stock? Maybe the perfect trout fishing knife? :-)

Cheers,
Grunde

You could probably do even better with a 3/32" if you only plan on using it on fish, but I got mine as a general purpose knife for hiking and hunting. It works very well for both trout, moose and reindeer :D
