Open it!!!!!

It has been unraveled. Despite reading all the positive reviews, hearing the wonderful stories, and having high expectations, the full glory of Andy's work has still overwhelmed me. I'm honestly scared for my wallet now, especially since Fiddleback Friday is... tomorrow! Pics to come. Stay tuned :)

This is the sad part - until you can feel the texture of the handle in your hand, the balance on your fingertips, and see the gleam of the blade, you don't realize how little the pictures of the craftsmanship.

Congrats on the new knife -- Andy's work is amazing and can be quite addictive. I recently acquired two FBF knives with iron wood scales and was blown away by the chatoyance (deep grain characteristic) Andy drew out in his shaping!

Either way, enjoy the knife

Definitely agree. Being a photographer myself, I know the actual experience will never match a photo's portrayal. Although the opposite is true too, sometimes pictures can make things look better than they really are. In the case of Andy's knives, you definitely have to see and feel it in person to appreciate the beauty.

Thanks! I am definitely already enjoying it. The bug has bit and it bit hard! Someone bring me the vaccine!

This weeks knife is one of those that just came out at the grinder. I wanted something that looked like it had Asian pastoral roots. Parangs, and barongs, and Khukuris. I trim my hedges with a barong from Reflections of Asia. That’s a fun place to order from. This weeks new knife model is going to be called The Bishop. Because of its size, you can expect it to be a rare one. The edge on this beast is 9.25” long and it has a 5.5” long handle with Himilayan Imports Khukuri influences just like all my big knives. This allows the handle to be held in two positions which facilitates use with various amounts of wrist snap and chopping power. This knife sinks into wood. It’s a fun one, and I’d imagine there will be a few of these on the Bladeshow table….

It is Bladeshow season and I put one knife aside this week.

I am introducing the concept of the model standard knife this week. When I say this, I mean to say that the knife in question is as good as I have ever made that model. They will of course have tapered tangs. In addition to this though, the grinds and handle shapes are ‘just right’ in my opinion.

The steel this week is 3D Spalted 01 steel and CPM 154 with Fiddleback Textured Flats.

Please note that the SS is a big thicker than the measurement I order because most folks surface grind to size. So this means 1/8” thick blades are really ~0.140” thick.

Payment may be made to Paypal, or by personal check or MO. I hold all personal checks until they have cleared. This usually doesn’t cause a delay because they usually clear before shipping day.

Attention!!! The paypal address is: fiddlebackpayments at att dot net. Please describe your purchase in the payment notes.

Shipping is included within the US. Ken has taken over the shipping department and we are going to be setting up a special e-mail address for all questions or concerns regarding shipping. I’ll give that out when the new website is launced.

Buncha good small knives this week. A lot of SS in this whole batch as well. The Cofeeebag Hiking Buddy is an excellent example of the HB.

Buhshfingers. The Bushfingers in this batch are prime examples, and are ready to work. The Tuxedo one has black g10 as its main scale material and Judy has it all shined up like hard candy. The natural canvas one in this batch is actually the old Westinghouse Antique Canvas. I got another shipment of this stuff from JL, and as usual, its stunning!

Two Mates that Match. These two just shared handle material and are as far apart functionally as they can be. The Woodchuck here is a breed standard example. With its tapered tang and high thin grind, it is an exceptional cutting tool. The Bourbon Street Skinner here is wicked. This design is so fun for me to grind. Its been a while, and I missed making them.

The Duke. This knife has really earned its name. Why didn’t I do this design sooner? The AfricanBlackwood and tapered tang on this one make it a model standard example of the design as well.

The Bishop. This is the new model, the Bishop. It is a chopper, as you can tell. It has Asian knife influences utilizing my khukuri inspired large knife handle. This one has beautiful Ruby Burlap micarta from Shadetree. The tang is tapered, but the handle is nice and thick. This one is made to chop. The knife is 15” long with a 5.5” long handle. This one is ground on 5/32” thick 3D Spalted (tough as nails) 01 steel! 01 is an excellent chopper steel.

Thank you for your interest folks.

Thanks,
David

Hello David,

Check back tomorrow and be looking for a post named something like "Fiddleback Friday 1/24/14" which will list the knives that are available. It's a first come/first served, post a "I'll Take It" with the info for the knife you want to buy in a similar fashion to what you see in this thread. The "Law of the Sharks" is what it's called. You gotta be fast or someone might beat you to the knife you're looking at. I speak from experience :)

Hopefully you find one to your liking. Andy (Fiddleback) and crew make incredible tools.

Checking old FBFs per Andy's Shark Posts. It doesn't look like this one was taken--know it's a long shot. If it's still available, I'll take it.
2014 0117 002 – EDKarda, Tuxedo Handle Configuration, (Winner of the Most Handy Award for 2013), SFT Tang, Convex on 5/32” thick 3D Spalted 01 steel - $200

Thanks!

Thanks!

If it's not available there is an identical Bushcraft Karda for sale at one of Andy's dealers websites "ACK"

I have the Bushcraft Karda left, but not the EDKarda.

If this one happens to be available, I'll take it please.

2014 0117 017 – Nessmuk, Antique Westinghouse Canvas on natural canvas with an orange g10 pinstripe, SFT Tang, Convex on 1/8” thick 3D Spalted 01 steel - $255

Sorry, but that one is gone!

Great minds thinking alike on the Gaucho, Crano! I'll expect some pics of it from your part of the world! Enjoy in good health!

MC

Congratulations MwChick on your first Fiddleback. :)
Sorry I beat you to the Small Gaucho by a couple of seconds I think. ;)
Glad you scored a great knife.
