Fiddleback Friday 10/18/13

Andy, That is one HUGELY generous offer! I am just forming a Scout Troop in the less fortunate side of town. Some really excited kids! I will find the perfect match for the HB! Working with these kids is what it's all about! Thank you!

Well, there is only so many of the you need in the shop, and just throwing them away has always seemed wrong to me.

Andy, I'll take the maroon linen Hiking Buddy 2013 1018 03. $230.

You got it. Excellent choice too. Thank You!

I take this one
2013 1018 013 – Sneaky Pete, East African Rosewood over natural canvas with an orange g10 pinstripe, Skeletonized full thickness tang, Convex on 5/32” thick 01 steel

Beautiful work as always Andy, damn that Ash Woodchuck is a knock out! I love the look of that handle and that grind looks amazing. I wish I had the money to take that one, but probably best that I don't...I really want a synthetic handle on the Woodchuck I get, probably natural or antique canvas. That box elder Nessmuk is the first Nessmuk to make me think damn I'd like to have that. Really liking the new tweaks on that one a lot. That maroon Kephart is just something else. Looking forward to the new stamp, and I love the fiddle!

Always find your analysis very interesting after the dust has settled from Fiddleback Friday mist.

Yeah, the Maroon Kephart wasn't exactly on my "Most Wanted" list but at 1/8" tapered and with the full height convex grind, I just couldn't pass it up. I had two very similar Kepharts in 5/32" but this one should be a beauty of a slicer for my uses. I find it hard to resist most of Andy's knives in maroon linen, 1/8" tapered tangs with full height convex grinds.

And I know you probably aren't in the market to buy at the moment but there is a natural canvas Woodchuck available on the knife connection.

That fiddle stamp is indeed super cool & it looks as though the knife pictured with it received some fancy file work as well. Never have seen that done on a Fiddleback before.

Man, I'm kinda sick about the Ash. Its the last I have for quite a while. They aren't cutting Ash anymore. I have some, but not a lot and it only arrived a few weeks ago. I always let these woods sit in the shop a year or more. Don't expect any more for a while then.

I really, REALLY want a Woodchuck, it has a similar blade geometry to a knife I am working on for myself...but much different style and intent to the knife itself. The Woodchuck just looks perfect for my likes and wants in a blade for woods wandering, and having had several of Andy's knives in my hand now, I am already certain that handle is as comfortable as it looks. The ash on that one in particular is just gorgeous, but I want one with that same or close grind height, and it will be getting wet on a regular basis so prefer the idea of the synthetic handle. The Maroon Kephart just just looks amazing, I love that grind, I love the Kephart profile...if I had the money I might put together a group of Kepharts to rival Erich's Bushfinger herd, lol. I do so want to get at least one model with the maroon and it suits the Kephart design exceptionally well in my thinking. I'd love to check out a full sized knife in the tapered 1/8. I have I have a tapered 5/32 Recluse and Woodsman, and a tapered 1/8 Bushboot, and now after the trade with Philip I have the maple Hiking Buddy from FF-9/6/2013 with a skeletonized tang. I think the next Kephart I get will be tapered 1/8 or maybe skeletonized 1/8...still thinking. BUT the Woodcheck will most likely come first come spring woods wandering time when I won't be hunting, and it will need to be tapered or skeletionized 5/32 for more power in cutting and notching. This one is going to work for a living :)

I'm not normally much of a Nessmuk guy, I generally go for narrower, pointier blades. But I do like that style, and I love that box elder handle.

Yep, love that fiddle, and noticed that file work too and am very intrigued and hoping to get to see the knife as a whole.

I can see that. The grain in that Ash looks beautiful, and looks like it would be super comfortable in hand.

Is that fiddle going to be the "occasional" stamp? If so you should put one on a Woodchuck when I can afford one, I'll some some photos for your website that I think you will like. I have already set that shot up in my head a hundred times since yesterday :o

Not sure how that Woodchuck waited for me to get here and snag it but I am glad it did. The more I look at it the more I like it. I would loooooove a Sneaky Pete with white linen and green liners though.
