I had a feeling this was gonna happen![]()
You figured that out, Brian! I just HAD to get this one! hahaha
I had a feeling this was coming lol. I love the grind on that Woodchuck, and I must admit the idea of a wood turning a deep burnt ochre over time really appeals to me...but I should probably opt for a Woodchuck with a synthetic handle when I get one considering the plans I have for it. Nice snag though, it is gorgeous!
thanks Will...I have a Sneaky Pete in the orange glowGordy, that's a pretty BF! I kept thinking of how it would be a great camping knife.... easy to clean and hard to loose!
Ill take the
2013 1101 007 – Hiking Buddy, Red Burlap from Shadetree over black g10 with a white g10 pinstripe, Tapered Tang, Convex on 1/8” thick 01 steel - $270
And
2013 1101 020 – Bushcrafter, Red Burlap from shadetree over natural canvas with a white g10 pinstripe, Tapered Tang, Convex on 1/8” thick 01 steel – (This one is really outstanding!) – $295
I read the whole thread right before I posted and I’m pretty certain no one called dibs on that one before I posted. My post was time-stamped 2:12 pm. His post was edited at 2:17 pm. I don’t want to fight about it, as it’s just a knife at the end of the day. But I don’t think people should be editing their posts to retroactively call dibs on something that they did not in the first instance.
Did I get 016?

So, what's the story with the Butcher? I've never seen one before!
Mist called me and pointed this out while I was driving. I have e-mailed about the issue and await a response from TD. Lots of folks being drawn to these Fridays are new to forums, and the Law of the Shark is foreign and confusing to some of them. I will let you know what TD says. Either way, I will make another knife for the other party. Thank you for the calm way you brought it up!
Really great set this week, very much liked the dark green burlap from Shadetree texture, as well as the Oak Bushfinger.
Just my honest opinion though.. the fiddle back 'clip art' icon/logotype that you have on the Arete blade really detracts from these amazing knives. I design logotypes and brands for some of the largest companies in the world, and my honest recommendation is to 'simplify' the fiddle imagery to a simple shape, and keep the imprint off the blades, or keep it small and 'inline' with the design flow of the blade. As it stands, the blade has a beautiful curve shape where the grinded blade meets the textured steel, and the placement of the fiddle 'clip art' interrupts the flow.. the eye instead moves from flowing down the lines of the blade, and gets stuck on the Windows 98 look/feel of the large icon.
Part of the success of the fiddleback brand I suspect is the purity of the art.. please keep it that way, or work with someone to design a simplified and original look/feel that 'fits' into the design of your blades.
LOL..... me too! I even left work to keep me away from the computer! After all, I did ask for that exact knife several weeks ago! She'll get plenty of use!
Yep, I remember when we were talking about the guardless Woodchuck you mentioned the Osage. Then when I saw it I said to myself there is his knife. I love the grind and that it's guardless, I want one with the blade done that same way.
I can't believe I missed it on my first pass through the knives.... I was looking, primarily for a full height grind 1/8" Bushfinger with an interesting handle material... then that Butcher caught my eye... I have a couple of osage knives, so just skipped over them.
I have a Bushfinger and a Woodsman in osage I use everyday in my home kitchen, I am sure this one will be right with them! I'm with you, I would love a synthetic scaled, one just this one to use at work... burlap? hmmm... maybe Andy can make us a pair of something cool!![]()
I know waht you mean. I saw the grind on that burlap Bushfinger and was hoping someone had already bought it so I didn't do anything stupid... but I really want a 5/32 version with full height and tapered or maybe SFT tang when I get one of the Bushfingers.
I would really dig a Woodchuck with a synthetic handle, I like having the knife on my belt being as functional in the kitchen as it is in the woods![]()
Mist,
I'll let you know how it does in the kitchen! I am expecting a lot from that blade design, that shape just looks as if it should be guardless! It has that santoku appearance. I'm with you on the all-purpose knife, Andy's knives are all bouncing around that magical and elusive, all purpose design. I do hope one day to get a Fiddleback a touch thinner than 1/8" for dedicated kitchen duty.
The only kitchen I work in these days is my own, but I have prep cooked in a few three star restaurants at resorts and in Miami a looooong time ago, and I do all of the cooking at home. I can look at that blade and see how well it will perform with veggies and fresh herbs even with the full height 5/32 and because of that 5/32 I'll feel more comfortable with it in the woods as well. Andy has been doing more and more with 3/32 so it is a definite possibility. I'm just one of those nuts who is willing to sacrifice a little bit of slicing ability in the kitchen to have the knife more hefty in the bush, so that it works pretty much equally well in my whole life, not just any one part of it. Right now my Woodsman fills that role, but I think the Woodchuck is more suited to me, it just looks perfect for me for everything but skinning, and that's where the Recluse comes in![]()
