Fiddleback Friday 11/30/12

Nice batch as always Andy, that maroon Kephart is beautiful and that Recluse is really sweet!

The KE Bushie is back on the market guys. Thanks!

I picked up the KPH for my nephew's Christmas Present. Its at Rick Lowes getting a sheath made for it. I'll post photos of both as soon as Rick's done with it. Thanks to Andy and Rick for helping me in securing the Uncle Of The Year award ;)

Nice score! And thanks for jarring my thoughts and making me realize I was being derelict in my duties to my own nephew. I gave him a knife made for war when he was deploying to the sandbox over a decade ago. He has been home for some time now and back in school. I think I am over due in giving him a knife that's not made for war.

2012 1130 011 – Kephart, Maroon Linen over natual canvas with a white g10 pinstripe, Tapered Tang, convex on 5/32” thick steel - $285

There are tapered tangs, and then there are TAPERED tangs. No pics of the pommel ends, how thin is the tang on this one?

I was a nice thin one. It is sold to The Knife Connection!!!

Was just curious. Was thinking the maroon might go well with the winter colors for a project I have coming up, but wondered at the tang thinness too. I am wanting one of your tapered tangs next for various reasons, but as we have discussed...not sure paper thin, though beautiful as it is, is a right fit for me and my uses. Winters here are a time of the forest floor being bland and mostly light browns and beiges, so being a naturalist I have been looking at your color schemes looking for an "earthy" colored handle material that will look at home in the forest, but still stand out from background materials, and not too lightly colored so that I don't get too much reflected light bouncing back at the image sensor. To have started out such a simple child of the woods...my life has gotten really complex lol.

Hi Andy,

After 17...yes 17 days of waiting and waiting and waiting I finally received my knife:
2012 1130 013 – Bushfinger, African Blackwood over natual canvas with a white g10 pinstripe, Tapered Tang, convex on 5/32” thick steel

I have to say that although I'm not an expert, pictures does not give the credit these knifes deserve....it is so nice and good looking I've never seen anything like it..
And the smoothness of the handle is amazing. Not to mention the blade which looks even better....

I'm so so happy, this is the best personal christmas gift ever and I promise to take really good care of it and thank you so much for the knife !!!
Now I will start looking for a sheath that can actually match this super cool knife. And of cause continue to monitor whatever else you produce in the future....

Best wishes for a merry christmas and a happy new year for Fiddleback,
Ronny (Denmark)

Oooh, nice score. That one has a nice high grind too, I bet it slices really well. Enjoy your Bushfinger, I'm sure it will serve you well. I've had mine going on three years and have put it through a lot, and it just keeps looking better and better. That international shipping is rough on the patience isn't it? Every time I have something coming in from the UK or Australia I have to just try to forget about it till it gets here...thinking about it for two or three weeks always drives me nuts.

Thanks Mistwalker,

yes it is a super nice score....and yes international shipping is really rough not to mention the +100US$ in VAT...I love this country :-)
Now I just need to understand whether the secondary grind is a full convex or is it infact a v-grind ??? does anyone know ?
and what is the best way to sharpen such a grind ?

Thanks,
Ronny

Ronny, I hand sharpen each knife with leather backed sandpaper. Dylan uses stones on his. Ron likes to use crock sticks. Treat that knife like every other one in your collection. No biggie.

THANKS!!!

Yep, I sharpen mine on stones like I do all of my others. I really should do a full convex on one though just to do it.
