Fiddleback Friday - 4/1/16

The glacial jade is pretty cool. Still some good looking knives up here.
If that Hiking Buddy was 1/8" (preferably A2) or less, I wound have bought it at 3:00 on Friday. *hint, hint* ;)
Competition might be stiff on a razor thin HB, but the 5/32nds is great stock too. Might be worthwhile to check out the dealers ;)

I guess I'm the odd man out in my thinking, but I prefer the balance of the tapered 5/32 on the HB to any of the SFT tangs or tapered thinner ones.

I've got a Production Puukko on the way this week and, although I was dead set on a Hiking Buddy being my first Fiddleback, I have 2 FF's and a Surl's already. My gut says I want a 3/32" HB but maybe someone can start a 3 Hiking Buddy pass around so we can get a feel for that weight/balance aspect you're referring to. How did that go above .. *hint, hint* ? :)

* 3 HBs being: 5/32 tapered, 1/8 SFT, 3/32 SFT

today i scribed out 15 sticks of various models

12 of them were 3/32" or 1/8"

Lol, I like 1/8 tapered better than 1/8 SFT :D But I could see how that would be helpful with decision making. My thing with the really light blades comes in with whittling, and the blade not having enough mass to help with the cutting and all of the work happening at the wrist. With things like cutting fruits and vegetables I am fine with the thinner blades really, but then a little bit of heft gives me a boost in confidence in any tool also.

Man it's really hard to believe that the handyman, patch and asp are all unclaimed... all gorgeous. And that black and maroon bushcrafter sr. is a sight to see.

Yeah that Patch is especially sweet as are the others! If I wasn't limited on Funds and didn't have my heart set on a Bushfinger in a particular handle material I would have picked up one of the knives this last Friday.
