Fiddleback Friday 5/4/2018 ****Preview****

Well, I got the knife I wanted. It took over a minute to get through the checkout with PayPal. I'm not sure if anyone else even tried for the one I was after. It just didn't seem as exciting as the old format. I liked being able to see who beat me to the one I wanted. And who sharked what. I'm sure I'll get used to it but I already miss the old Fiddleback Fridays.

Yeah, definitely a whole different vibe.

Yeah, I was thinking there might be a feeling of isolation or separation, like with any other online purchase, compared to what we were used to as Fiddleback Fridays, where you felt anything but alone lolol.

Exactly.

It felt (not surprisingly) like the Fiddleback Outpost email newsletter subscriber sales.

Having an account set up ahead of time and hitting refresh on the Fiddleback Friday page didn’t help me much today. I had already started the checkout process when I was prompted for additional information (that’s already in my profile). Little bump in the road that cost some time. Apparently for others, as well. It didn’t happen during the previous sale on Wednesday evening. Hmmm.

On a positive note, my transaction was immediately stopped when the knife was sold to someone else, so that prevented going all the way through with it just to find it was already sold.

I'd like to see the issues with using paypal worked out. Using a credit card is a no-go....slush funds do have a purpose. ;)

I use my pay pal card more often than I use my local bank's card.

I understand the changes - but it’s not the same.... It doesn’t have the same thrill/feel.

Definitely not the same, but it sounds to me like there is potential for a similar thrill level as the Friday frenzy over time. It would seem that since the transaction stops as soon as someone else has purchased that knife, there should be a thrill upon each successful purchase much like with the Friday posts. Then add in the during and after chatter here in the forum. I don't think it will be like a typical online purchase with it being the same sort of time release deal as here on the forum.

I really like the new preview process. If was nice to get an email vs constantly scanning to see when the knives are posted.

I didn’t make a FFF purchase, so I can’t comment in that. I did, however purchase the black canvas EDK from the handmade section and it was very easy. The ability to avoid paypal fees was much appreciated.

I’ll also add I really like the model example database. It has a ton of useful model specific info. Personally, I would make it a bit easier to find.

All in all, I like the experience. If it frees you up to make my next knife faster, I’ll count that as the biggest win of all.

Keep in mind that the recent feedback I have been getting on Fiddleback Fridays is that it was fun at first for the collector, then became frustrating once the collection's needs became specific. It was good for some and bad for some. This method addresses the needs of those collectors as its easy to find every available Fiddleback. That includes the ones that are on other dealers as we are updating the dealer page to prioritize the dealers with the highest stock level.

The new format is going to take time to get used to. With any change there will be adjustments and some bumps in the road. Personally I thought the pics were incredible and was shocked that some of those stunners are still available.

Just a thought, and if it is a bad thought, then please feel free to delete. What about doing a 1 knife drop Monday through Thursday at 3:00 on the forums. The folks on the forum get 1 hour to purchase it. If no one pics it up it gets moved to the Friday drop, or sent off to a dealer. This is me just thinking out loud so if this makes no sense, sorry!
