Wow! Beautiful batch! I love the emerald burlap with black trim. That Bushboot is simple yet very beautiful. That Hiking Buddy looks amazing also, and I love that grind. That emerald green Recluse is something else too. The more I see that tuxedo configuration the more I like it. Lots of food for thought in this batch!

Andy,

Is this one guardless? I can't really tell from the picture.

Thanks.

It's a standard Hiking Buddy I believe. He doesn't ever make them actually guarded like he sometimes does the Ladyfinger as far as I know...at least I have never seen one, but that one doesn't look to be a "guardless" version either.

It is not a guardless one. Its yours if you still want it. Thanks.

Damn, I thought it was guardless. I'm sorry but I jumped the gun, I was really looking for one without the guard. It would have gone perfectly with my new bushboot too, which by the way is an awesome knife. If anyone is thinking about picking up a bushboot do not hesitate because they are awesome!

Again I apologize Andy. When another guardless one comes up that strikes my fancy I'll be all over it.

EDIT: I changed my mind I will take this one please.

Keep in mind though that I've never offered a guardless one here on the forums.

Really? I could have sworn that I had seen a couple around. Hmmm...this does give me pause. Is the guard smaller than on some of your other knives like the bushboot? Maybe I was looking at hiking buddies with guards and thinking they were guardless.

Andy, I will take the Hiking Buddy please. Guard, no guard, large guard, small guard...this looks like on beauty of a knife and I know I would be kicking myself if I missed out on it.

Thanks!

essublime,

Thanks for the link. Very close to what I was thinking of but I really want one in 1/8" instead of 5/32".

^^LOL You'll love it. There is hardly any guard anyway on the HB's, at least, I've never noticed it getting in the way.

I have made two Hiking Buddies that are guardless. I still own one. The other one is the blue one posted for sale in the thread linked above by Essublime. The guard on HB's is very similar to the one on Bushboots.

I have withdrawn the add for the guard-less hiking buddy. I do appreciate the blade, the maker and the circumstances under which I received it. It only eases my mind more that there are only two or three like it (thus far). I thought my Bushfinger would tackle all the tasks this little guy would and was thinking more along the lines of 1/8" myself. Although the practicality offer by horizontal carry has grown on me and found a niche on the lake. Maybe a 1/8" EDC in the future, but gonna hang on to this one.

Thanks Andy. Your craftsmanship and ethics are appreciated.

I had a similar encounter with a Hiking Buddy a couple of years ago at Blade. I really wanted one with a convex grind...but I really loved the look of the features and colors of the dyed blue box elder handle. I kept stopping by looking at them trying to decide which one to get and walking away still unsure. I finally settled on the box elder with the scandi grind on 1/8. I knew I would always regret it if I didn't get it. As it turns out it is now my wife's favorite knife for whittling and carving. I love the handle on this knife. Would love to have one with the same furniture with a convex grind and tapered tang 5/32, that would be awesome. She asked if this one could be re-ground into a convex. I told her I didn't think Andy would want to do it at this point being finished and all, and I wouldn't even consider letting anybody else do it. So, now I'm just keeping an eye out for a similar Hiking Buddy with convex blade in the future :) I love the grind on the one you just picked up, very nice score.
