Fiddleback Monday

Boring about like rural illinois

LOL, not boring to me. I'm on five acres with an artesian well, a small apple orchard, a small pear orchard, two trellases of grape vines, and a stream with trout in it. Plus we're surrounded by woods full of deer, rabbits, squirrels, and open fields and pastures beyond those. I am working on a chicken coupe, a small barn, an outside clay oven, and making jams and jellies. Hell I couldn't be less bored or more excited :)

Thanks! We are planning a trip to the UP next summer, I'll give you a shout when we are closer to that. Another friend and fellow writer, Len McDougall lives up there too, I'd like to visit him.

We've got some real nice camping areas. You've probably seen schmittie's pics. The hard part is finding time to spend in the outdoors.

Camping areas? You mean those little triangles of dead crops that form where the center pivots dont reach?
Moving out of Illinois was one of the high points of my life. Moving out of Colorado, one of the low points....

Im lucky enough to own a few acres of woods/prairie. Sadly I have more farm land than woods but thats where the moneys at.

The shawnee national forest is pretty big. We also have a few other little gems around. Without owning land I don't know how much bushcraft and camping I would be doing, probably none!

PS. I cant wait to see what Andy has for us tomorrow.

I have friends who live in western Illinois who have a lot of woods on their farm land. I got to play in those woods in the evenings for three weeks when I went up to help do some remodeling on the old farm house before they moved into it. Some of the old trees in those woods were larger in diameter than myself and three other people could have touched hands around. I loved it there. They had HUGE squirrels there too.

There are a lot of wooded areas in Illinois. One of the things I miss from my teens is walking through the woods exploring every week. When you get older things get busier, that's for sure.

Oh and since today is Monday, I should be receiving my first Fiddleback, a Kephart. I had it shipped to work and when I saw that an attempt was made on Saturday and that a notice was left, I scheduled a redelivery for today. I can't wait.

For most of us too busy. When my oldest daughter was little I spent a lot of time working 16 hours a day six days a week, with a two hour trip each way. It was usually all I could do to take care of the yard, and spend some time watching movies in the evenings with her. But every other Sunday I'd hit the woods with her for a picnic even if I was exhausted and we only stayed a couple of hours. I hope I never have to work those kinds of hours two hours from home ever again.

SWEET! Post some pics when you get it.

It's going to be Fiddleback Tuesday for me this week. Didn't make it to the post office in time after work.. Will pick up the Camp and Ladyfinger on the way to work in the morning:D

Sounds like a good Tuesday to me!

Sure, why not lol. Two-fer Tuesday. Could be any two Fiddlebacks, and any cool back ground?

I like the two-fer Tuesday idea. Could be two of the same model. two different models with same handle material. two different models that have nothing to do with each other except that they're cool looking fiddlebacks.

That's pretty much what I was thinking :) NoFair could join in with his new Camp and Ladyfinger too!

What thickness did you go with Mist?

This one is 5/32 with tapered tang. The balance is just behind the first finger. Handles like a dream.
