Fiddleback Nessmuk, Some Thoughts From The Kitchen

The Nessie I have is 1/8 tapered with a high grind. Considering I am in a frozen winter environment, I really haven't taken it to the woods just yet. However, I have been checking it out in the kitchen. I really like how the high convex grind on the wide 1/8-inch thick blade slices.

For a quick snack for my daughter and I, I made tuna salad with some sliced cheddar. The Nessie made short work of the pickle and onion, and it's pretty impressive to me when I can cut 1/16-inch slices of cheese, with a 1/8-inch thick blade.

Another dish I used the knife for was beef and broccoli with peppers, onions, and mushrooms over rice. The first thing was to portion a chuck eye roast I got on sale, and then slice up the meat and vegetables for the stir fry. The like the “S” shape this model has in profile, and I like having the forward swell in the handle to place my finger on for more control of the blade. The Nessie had no trouble with this one, and was fun to use.

At the time I picked up the roast, pork loins were also on sale, so I picked up a half of one, and portioned that for some loin chops and some stuffed loin chops later. The Nessie really does hold its on at a cutting board for a knife not purpose-designed for kitchen use, and is really just a lot of fun to use :) .

Food looks tasty and so does the knife.. Feel a slight "need" for some Shadetree...

That Nessie is starting to show her true colors, excellent write up Mist! Keep warm, it's nasty cold up here today :-(

This app needs smell-o-vision:p.

I fear that smell-o-vision could be a double edged Fiddleback. I am certain that there are things going on behind the camera that I neither want to see or smell:barf:. Mistwalker's food not included.

I'm not exactly sure what it is you're referring to, but okay?

Nice thread Brian.

Thanks, and I LOVE the Shadetree! It just gets even grippier when wet.

Thanks man, and yes she really is. Oh, we're trying to. A couple of inches of fresh snow and high winds are causing white outs and wind chills in the -20s today. The little one is tired of school cancellations...and I am just hoping they get here soon with the propane I paid for last week....

Bah you just love taunting me with that one. I knew I should have picked it up. :D

Oh, I think this is just something that goes around lol. Much like Willic and his box elder shank and KE Bushie that I drool over every time I see them, as well as several others out there :)

Oh, I could see that getting interesting!

Oh come on, it's been thirty years, and long before children since the last time I had sex while cooking! In fact ever since the great bacon incident of 1985 I don't go anywhere near a stove nude! :D

nice review mist
&

good looking grub too

Thanks Vance!

Oh, having done a stint in the collections end of an appliance rental company twenty five years ago, I have an idea. Trust me, there are homes in which you neither want to see nor smell the inside of...but I do not think that would be an issue with this group :)

Thanks Duder, glad you enjoyed it!

This was not meant to be a dig on Mistwalker whatsoever. I am picturing a guy in boxer shorts snapping pictures of knives, drinking beer, burping, farting, telling lies to his friends and having a good time, with a flatulent dog laying in front of the wood stove. Given this scenario, I would want to turn the smell-o-vision app off.

Yep. lol, wouldn't we all! Let's hope if it ever comes out there is an "off" option! :)

"Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me"

Thanks for the laugh!

Ack.. Just used $350 on some new skiing gear.. Ah well that is what a credit card is for :D

Mist if I invited you over for dinner...would you mind cooking?

Love the Nessmuk, that emerald burlap looks excellent on it.

Isn't winter almost over there too?

No problem lol, if I had time. I almost never mind cooking...hell it combines my two favorite subjects, knives and food :) We're wanting to hit the northeast next autumn if we can. I just have two rules...don't nit pick my cooking, and I don't do the dishes after...but I do clean up as I go :D

Hopefully the skiing conditions stay good in the mountains until May. Here in the lowlands we have a miserable rain/sleet/snow mix that isn't good for anything. I was hoping for good snow cover for skiing here until April :grumpy:

I might be able to think along these lines if and when I learn to ski, and get some snow shoes and other gear to make work easier. Right now I'm thinking...snow snow get out of here, come again another year :)

I'm with you Mist! Another 5" of snow over on our side last night. It's early March and were still in the teens for temps. I'm ready to take my plow off but I know it's weeks away.
