Fiddlebacks and Camping - Pic Heavy

Fantastic trip. Love that Scandi Arete with Natural Canvas. Thanks for sharing.

Nice pics! Looks like a fun outing. Thanks for sharing.

I can't wait until my son's baseball season is over. That'll free up the weekends for camping.

Cool trip! I look forward to going camping this summer with my brother. I will be bringing some Fiddlebacks, although most of mine are down here now. The Camp Nessie with a micarta in 5/32 is still my most wanted model. So many people have said that its one of their favorite/most used models and that doesn't help at all! Thanks for sharing your adventure.

The camp nessie seems to be along with the runt, one of the most consistent quick sellers on the fiddleback fridays. I hope you find one soon!

Very cool! Thanks for sharing!

I'm hoping to be accompanied by a Fiddleback or two on a lot of camping/backpacking trips this year!

Very nice Tod! Thanks for sharing!

Looks like a great time. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome Tod! I'm glad you survived the coffee situation. That was a close one. Looks like you have a great helper.

Thanks gentlemen! You jest about the coffee survival situation Nathan, but that is because you have not seen me in the morning before I get my coffee.

Awesome thread Tod. That looks like a great place to camp (meaning scenic and not crowded.) All of the various critter shots are very cool. I like your choice of Fiddlebacks to cover the range of tasks on the trip. The Camp Nessie is great for food prep with the tall curved blade. The Hobo stew looks really good. Your son's smile is priceless. He always seems to be the happiest kid on earth in all your photos. I also like the pictures of how you used the machete and Arete. I agree with your assessment that we need more scandi Aretes after spending time using Nathan's earlier this year. The only place that you lost me was with the coffee. Sock filtered coffee? Really?? :barf: Maybe you saw Bear Grylls do that or something. :D

Thanks again for getting us all thinking about camping and using our knives in the field.

Phil

Lol. Don't worry Phil, the sock was clean. :) I promise to not forget the filters if we ever get a fiddleback group camping trip together.

It is a great place to camp. There is an actual campground about 1/2 mile away that holds absolutely no appeal for me. We hike a short distance away and usually have a large meadow to ourselves. I went by the campground this time on the way to the river and there was music playing, people cussing and all of the things I like to get away from when I go camping.

My son is a pretty happy guy in general but when we go hiking or camping his spirit just shines. He absolutely loves running around outside in wild places, swimming in creeks and doing all the fun things we get to do when we go camping.

Great pics

Awesome trip Tod! Thanks for sharing.

I really wanna go camping......

This picture tells it all:

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys!

Great pics!
Thanks for sharing.
Makes me want to get out and make coffee with my socks. :D

LOL.

Looks like a great father son time, thanks for sharing! I myself usually just throw coffee grinds in a boiling pot and let it steep for couple minutes. As long as theyre relatively fresh, it tastes pretty good, but i may have to give my sock a try if it ever goes south

I would have made cowboy coffee but these grinds were pretty fine. I tried tearing apart a tea bag once to filter the grinds but it was an absolute fail.

 Made a note to try some hobo stew and another to never try sock coffee.

You guys are cracking me up. We usually add some garlic and butter in the hobo stew. I thought the sausage would add enough oil but next time I will bring some butter too. I just forgot the garlic.

I love lots of pics and now my desire to go camping has just increased by 20! Awesome pics and post!

 Nice pics, thanks for sharing. :)

Bringing joy to life and the family you hold dear......awesome !

Thanks! It is funny how many reasons I can come up with not to get everyone out the door and do a family camping trip. Sometimes you just have to do it. We were so busy it took a couple days to get everything cleaned up and put away when we got home. Every time we go though, it seems to bring our family a little closer together. It is strange how you can live with your family and not get a lot of quality time with the rush of the normal day to day. Getting outside somewhere beautiful and slowing down makes a big difference.

Awesome post! Looks like a great time man, love the scenery. The look on your helpers face is absolutely priceless! In my experiences, camping is a great time to get kids to try new foods. They are always hungry when it is done and they just eat without asking too many questions. Plus everything tastes better cooked over/in a real fire. I tend to make "cowboy" coffee a lot when camping. There is a trick to it. After boiling the coffee till done, remove from the high heat and add just a pinch of salt, then the grounds will drop to the bottom. Those frosty flower pics are really cool. Thanks for sharing the adventure!

Thanks Mist. I will have to try the pinch of salt trick for the cowboy coffee. I am glad you liked the frosty flower pics. I actually took a ton more.

Great photos thanks. That looks like a beautiful area. It has even been pretty dry here on the east coast with some minor brush fires in nearby areas - i'm sure it is scary dry out over there.

Yeh, that is one of the reasons I wanted to go last weekend. In a couple weeks the smaller creeks will be dry and they will only allow camping stoves and no fires.

Love this thread Tod! Looks like a great time. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Awesome pics! Love this pics of your son... Very cool ....

Fantastic trip. Love that Scandi Arete with Natural Canvas. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys! I hope everyone gets a chance soon to get out there and play with your fiddlebacks next to a camp fire.
