Recommendation? Fidget knives?

Knives aren't toys, get a spinner.

Hrumpf.
Haha, I was expecting at least one comment like that :p

 looks like I didn't search well enough, I'd have posted there otherwise, my bad!

I’m also rather fond of “playing” with the Para 3 LW every now and then. Manix is a close second.

That being said, fidgetability is something I don’t go out of my way for. It’s just a bonus. I still prioritize reliability and ergos.
That's what I usually do too, but between work from home and lockdowns I find myself fidgetting with my knives a lot more than usual these days, so I'm more and more considering getting one for which this would be one of the main choice factors.

  1. Balisong
  2. Axis lock (940 is the king, IMO)
  3. Kershaw Leek
I love my Manix 2, but it's not even in the Top 10.

Last place goes to anything with a nail nick. ;-)
I don't know why I've never considered balisongs... I should probably get a trainer one of these days!

The one that really appeals to me these days is the Whippersnapper, both from a design and fidgetting standpoint, but that's an expensive one! (I'll have one someday!)

Hogue Deka - polished the washers and it is incredibly smooth now with no side to side play. Also it is the quietest knife with just a soft snick either opening or closing.

Benchmade Contego - was surprised it's such a nice fidget knife being it's so big. I can actually 'drop shut' it with the handle parallel to the ground edge down with no wrist action involved. Cool trick when the guys are bragging on their latest drop shut knives.

balisong, but it isn't for fidgeting its for practice. playing with sharp knives aint a great idear. be careful.

paragon warlock is something i see people play with on youtube, its something i myself would never trust as a working blade, so fidget away with it, OTF'S like Steely said, i wouldn't use an otf for anything else myself either, butterfly knives are another good one, BHQ markets them as recreational, i think they lost their dog in the EDC/SD fight personally

ZT 0450- skinny blade with decent mass, fires out fast, detent is dialed in, experiment with the lube that works best for you. I got mine on Ebay for about $50 - use Fatfingers or one of the other misspelled auction title sites since there's a whole lotta people that can't properly spell "tolerance" I have always sent a heads up to the seller, and if they don't change it in 24 hours then put in a bid.

I definitely wouldn't play with a balisong without knowing how to use it (I'm more and more tempted to buy a trainer though). But to be honest I cut myself more often while cooking than when playing with a knife on my couch :D

Even though, i had a bad experience with it, it’s nevertheless an awesome knife for fidgeting. It has like 9 ways or more to deploy the blade. Check out for Hoback Sumo

Seems really fun to play with indeed, I had forgotten it existed, but I hate that design :/

Oh it has a nice look! What kind of bad experience did you have with it?

A basic open/close on a Balisong can be taught in like a minute. If you want assistance, feel free to reach out.

If you do, get a cheap one. Benchmade gets almost as much for a trainer as a real one. Lots of folks will get the real one and either blunt or tape the edge and point for practice.

I like to fidget the Urban. The slipit is soothing.
I don't have an Urban, but I have a UKPK and a had a Squeak. They are impossibly light and more fun to flip open and closed than one would think. I recommend a UKPK and A.G. Russell K-93 to anyone who finds the grip and fidgetability of the Delica to be lacking.

I have a bad habit of getting drunk while watching a movie while flipping a knife. It's how I cut myself probably 75% of the time.

My Terrain 365 Balisong just came in the mail. This is a photo with a Microtech UTX-70 for scale.

I like the blade shape on that balisong, it's quite uncommon and gives it a much less agressive look than more traditional thinner blades. I know a few basic tricks with balisongs, I meant more that I wouldn't play with a sharp one while watching a movie without being confident enough to play with it without focusing too much.

Nothing says"Oh how I love that feeling, sound of and the sight of" - like an old-style "Italian switchblade".
Sadly, the spring & lock of that style is prone to breakage & sooner or later, a pretty expensive "toy" is ruined.

Thankfully - $20 cheap knock offs are easy to find at gun shows! :D

Truth be told though - any knife within reach of me is "Fiddle fodder".
I even spend some time fondling my War of 1812 era Calvery saber.....pulling it out of and sticking it back into the scabbard.

I fidget with all my knives, some are easier to open than others but all get the same treatment. Heck, I even fidget with slip joints, mindlessly opening/closing, rolling them over and over...

I loved my ZT 0562CF until I snagged a skinny sheepsfoot Hinderer. (The Hinderer makes the ZT feel like a toy; caution on stepping up) PM2 is notorious as well. Maybe a butterfly knife, depending on your setting. An OTF knife is fun as well.

Thank you all for the recommendations! I went with a balisong trainer for now (I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it, but not sure it will replace a folder while in the couch). But that shouldn't stop you from continuing to post suggestions and pictures, they're great, and made me discover a bunch of knives I didn't know about :D

With ADHD and anxiety issues, fidgeting with my knives helps calm me down.

I figure why not have a tool and a fidget thing in one. Plus a spinner doesn't work in a lazy boy.

At the moment, my top 5 fidget friendly knives are:

1. Civivi McKenna
2. WE Deacon
3. Para 3
4. Yojimbo 2
5. A Purvis Progeny
