Just for looks. I grind a distinctive "separating" line between the guard and bolster sides which are one piece.

Thanks for looking,
Mike

Mike,

your knives are begging for a hamon, or temperline. I didn't notice what type of steel you used, but most 10X steels, if clay backed, produce a fine temperline.

Another fine knife, and it looks very fast and slick without a D-guard.
Good going!

Wow! That's quite the beast of a blade! Nice looking too!

Is it differentially heat-treated?

No. Its evenly heated and quenched with a rough bevel.
I check the edge by attempting to bite into it with a hack
saw blade. If the saw blade won't bite, it's hard.
It's then brought back up in temp. until the bevel can be
filed even. It's then honed to a razors edge.
Nothing fancy. Just a very long proven method that works
exceptionally well. The edge holding ability is extreme.

I went to your site, and this like all your work, is really awesome...you have some great lines, and a good eye. I have been trying to convince myself not to buy one of your Kukris. Great stuff.

Website?

The link is probably somewhere incredibly obvious but I'm missing it...

can't believe I missed this! Dang it!
I'm gonna contact you via email, I think it's about time I made a home for a D-guard field cutlass.

Thanks for posting the link.
Please keep in mind that this is just
picture storage. The knives there
have all been sold.
I repeat my designs often and some
like this one make it to the for sale page
here.

This showed up today and it's really outstanding---for having a kind of "rough" look, there are absolutely no hot spots on the handle anywhere, and the ergonomics and overall feel are very good. Definitely not balanced for finesse, but that's fitting as there weren't any cutlass fencing schools that I've heard of. Huge amount of power behind a swing, which is awfully hard to parry. :D

An extremely solidly built, tough as nails cutting instrument, and a fun one at that. Many thanks, and I'll certainly be keeping my eyes on your future projects.
