Hello,
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I am currently finishing training in Louisville and I am a fan of Busse knives. I decided to stop by Knob Creek today with my camera to see what was doing.

First, for those of you who don't yet know, Knob Creek has the biggest and most famous machine gun shoot in the country. Thousands of people come twice a year to see the action and to buy stuff from the vendors who come to the shoot.

It was rainy today but that didn't seem to dampen the crowd at all.

I had to park about a mile away and walk in under an umbrella. I suppose I could have driven my truck back into a parking lot but the lots weren't paved and a lot of people were getting very comically stuck.

I shoot at Knob Creek every once in a while but this is the first time I've ever been there for the Machine Gun Shoot. I wasn't sure quite what to expect. The first thing I saw was this:

Yes folks, that is a FLAME THROWER RENTAL BOOTH!

I can hear the skeptics right now so please allow me to humbly stamp out any disbelief.

And lest you think that a flame thrower was not actually rented and used, behold:

I'm originally from the home state of John Wayne. I've been around guns and knives my whole life but I must say I was a little shocked by rented flamethrowers.

The security guards were getting wet in the rain so they decided to use some of the juice from the flamethrower to dry off.

Welcome to Kentucky folks.
I went to Knob Creek to check out the Busse booth so I made my way there right away.

I was extremely impressed by how approachable and nice the staff of Busse Combat Knives were. They were eager to answer my questions and just talk about knives in general. I was drooling over one knife in particular but didn't buy it.

It was the little custom at the tip of the arrow. You see, too many boxes have been showing up at the house this month. If I bought that knife I would probably have to fork over $1200 to the wife for a handbag or something.

Of course I drooled over the big custom choppers.

I also was tempted by some of the Swamp Rats that were for sale. Alas, it was not to be.

I'll have to save up money for the fall show and hopefully buy something then.
It may be blasphemy, but I have to say it. I collect lots of different knives, not just the badass Busses. I was looking to pick up a Benchmade Infidel but I couldn't find one. I found a lot of Microtech knives and steamed up the cases drooling over those but I didn't buy anything. Little known fact - to buy an automatic knife in Kentucky all you need is a Kentucky driver's license. Just don't carry one unless you have a concealed carry permit. If you get one of those you can carry an automatic knife if you want.

Now for the guns. Yes they are fully automatic machine guns and yes you can buy them and yes you can shoot them.

Pretty much any kind of machine gun you can think of was represented. Here are a few more:

I have a lot more photos but these were my favorites.

A big shout out to moveover. We had a nice discussion about how Northfield Minnesota threw the James gang right the hell out of town for trying to rob the bank. No area of country has tougher people than the upper Midwest.

You captured the experience very well.

It's just like being there.

You're right about Garth and the guys - Infinite patience and always great knife talk.

Someday I'm going to have to make the Blade show in Atlanta.

I just saw something on TV about that . . . the gang staked out the Hardware stores, thinking that they could keep the townsfolk from getting access to the guns. What they didn't figure was every Tom, Dick, and Harry already being well armed.
Unfortunately, most of the towns-folk were only shooting bird-shot . . .

Thanks for the pics! Looks like a wet, but good time.
Hats off to those who braved the weather!

Nice!! I'll have to make it there next time and get my mitts on a SHBM!!!! :D

I was there too, fri morning. Saw the Busse knives up close for the first time, along with the Rats. Didn't purchase anything, but I understand the appeal for the collector and/or user. I live close by, so maybe I'll be back there in 6 months. Saw some decent deals on Spydie folders and the like, along with some highly inflated prices like $76 for a plain mini-grip and $170 for a BM 710.

Those pics are great. I parked way out on the street and hiked in, but know now about the parking thats a little closer in there. It rained fri night and saturday, so I bet it was fun camping in the mud.

cheers

WOW! Any idea how much a civilian would pay for an M2 .50cal Browning Machine Gun? I bet that'd get you a lot of Busse knives in trade!!!

Great pics, thanks for the flamethrower show!

Welcome to the Busse forum!! Very nice pics, thnx for sharing:thumbup:

Third picture from the bottom in the first post. What is that Game Warden on the bottom (looks lime green)?
