Field sharpening a NMFBM?

right now I have a 6" nicholson mill bastard file and a 5" coarse/extra course double sided dmt stone (the kind with the plastic balisong handles)

with the mill bastard file (if the teeth are still sharp), you can remove huge amounts of metal very quickly, and with the 220 and 320 grit dmt stones, a simple honing afterwards to remove the burr gets you a very fast very easy to maintain field edge.

and if you break the knife and have lots of time on your hands, you can refile a point onto it.

Be sure to bring some sort of smooth steel rod with you. If you can get your NMFBM THAT dull in the field, you probably dinged that blade too.

For me the best is either a DMT double-sided Diafold sharpener or an EZE-Lap diamond rod. For the DMT it's the Blue/red one. This is really light-weight and fits into the pouch on the Sempre Paratus Tactical Sheath. The other great option is the EZE-Lap diamond sharpener rod. This comes in a brass round handle. The diamond rod screws off the handle and is kept in the handle itself. This is a great product but I have a funny feeling that they don't make them anymore becuase they don't show them on the site anymore. Get one if you can find one they're fantasctic. The DMT is a double-sided FLAT hone, so if you're worried about using it on a convex edge, go with the EZE-Lap or the DMT Round Serrated Knife Sharpener. For the DMT's the best field option is the red (fine) variety. For heavy chopping circumstances try the Blue (coarse) ones. My 2 sense.
