Does anyone know what type of steel was used in the 1990-1993 era Fieldmates?

May I also assume in saying that the kraton handles introduced on a few fixed bladed Buck models proved to be a catastrophic failure.
Nuthin' like traditional handle materials for ever lasting beauty!
