Hello all, I watched the Forged in Fire episode from last week - a Crossbow????? I've always had respect for their testing even with the "subjective" aspect. BUT - this one, when the arrow wouldn't stick in styrofoam, but shattered the safety glass? I know safety glass breaks pretty easy with a sharp point, but still, it doesn't take that much to stick in styrofoam. My first surprise was when they easily pulled string back to cock, but even more surprised when it didn't stick in styrofoam.

To say the least, I was disappointed - but maybe I missed something.

Comments from others please.

I'm a little confused as to why they were making a crossbow in the first place when it's clearly a show about bladed tools.

I was also shocked with how light the pull weight seemed.

I guess next week they will be making a shotgun as the final challenge. ;)

Yeahhh, I really didn't like the idea of taking bladesmiths and arbitrarily having them make a crossbow.

The kill test seemed pretty lame and just highlighted how the one kid's crossbow didn't shoot true. That didn't really sit right with me.

Those two did alot better than I would have, though.

If they made shotguns with hand forged Damascus barrels, that would be awesome!!

I watched a video of a knifemaker that did the damascus twist barrel for a toy cannon. That is probably the hardest thing in all of metal working, if i had to wager.

The show in general is very much going downhill, especially in the testing portions......even in the shows where they test knives.

I don't even understand any of the 'strength tests' anymore....not only are the 'tests' extremely unrealistic and unlikely scenarios to encounter, but IF they were, a knife would be the LAST tool I would reach for.

Can't wait for the next time someone uses one of my hunters to fulfill their need to hack a 4" diameter industrial grade steel nut to pieces.:thumbsdown:

I remember years ago seeing a WIP by Bailey Bradshaw of a single shot deer ? rifle of damascus on this forum. Absolutely amazing workmanship.

If they are going to jump the shark with a cross bow episode, at least have them make a cross bow that shoots knives :)

It would help if the crossbow would actually shoot! Since both made such weak crossbows, I wonder if they told them off camera what pound draw it should be? From watching it seemed that both were about the same weak draw. The crossbow was by far the worst FiF ever! I do hope the producers are reading this forum to see what we think of the crossbow.

On this weeks episode of Hafted in Haste, our bladesmiths must make..... door knockers. The door knockers must feature a circular ring at least 3 inches in diameter, a mounting plate to afix the knocker to a door, and a knocker weighing between 6 and 14 ounces. Bladesmiths, you will have 5 days at your home forge, good luck.

i have been tempted to enter my hat into the ring on the show, this crossbow episode has me thinking less and less about it now. I mean wtf, seriously. It's bad enough people put their name, reputation and dignity up when goin on the show with a lot to lose, and little to gain unless you win. but then to not even be making a blade?

Could you imagine if this happened on ANY other reality competition show? You don't see a cake baking show have the showdown be BBQ ribs right? Nobody on the zillion motorcycle building shows get tasked with building a hang glider at the end. At this point. im expecting black powder rifles to get done on FiF now.

With that kind of episode we may be witnessing Forged In Fire: Throes of Death.

So, it's not just me that thinks the quality of contestants and the show in general is going downhill? This season we've had the first time a smith failed to make a weapon at home that met the requirements, crossbows, and two of the ugliest swords we've seen yet. :(
