Episode 1, unbelievable! Can't believe two of these guys didn't make it! I bet two of the competitors were crapping bricks when they saw who they were up against...

Congrats to the winner, his winning blade looked freaking outstanding

I was crapping bricks, when I saw I was up against Burt!
It was a crazy ride. Any given Sunday, but the winner earned it fair and square.

Thanks for not revealing the winner. I just realized I missed it and can't see it until at least tomorrow when the on demand episode is available.
I'm putting my money on Salem though!

I won't give away the winner, but I will say, all four smiths did a fantastic job, and Salem, as usual, I enjoyed seeing you work!
Everyone had a really good sense of humor as well, and the show overall was definitely one of the more enjoyable to watch.

Winners or losers, I give full credit to anyone willing to step up and show what you're made of under less than optimal conditions. Salem, as always, you showed great composure under "fire". Congrats to the winner.

If I was a betting man I would've lost some money. Two really strong competitors failed out. Shows that anyone can have a bad day under the right circumstances and it shows that if you keep things steady you have a solid chance no matter who you're up against. The show did not go how I thought it would. It was a great episode and I want to thank those who put themselves out there for us to admire and learn from.

Great episode indeed! Congrats to the winner, but you all did such fine work. I'm blown away by the quality of work....in such a short amount of given time!!!

Did ya notice in the slo mo sword strokes by the "EETTT will Keeeelll" guy; he smacks the object broadside quite a bit.

Do you suppose it's setup to fail that cut, or to increase blade breakage, or just because he's not as good as he is said to be.

I've noticed and wondered the same thing. Personally I believe the show would be better off using machines to do what he does to guarantee consistency for the reasons you stated. That and it removes unnecessary cheese from the show. Having a current MBS and a historical weapons expert is good to go. "It will keeeel" guy brings the show down, IMO. Or maybe they could bring an actual knife maker and recognized blade fighter like Michael Janich who wouldn't cheese the show up.

I'd also like to see some guest judges or at least put Jay Nielsen in the pit to see how well he'd do with some of the challenges.

I had known about Doug Marcadia (sp?) before the show. He seems legit, at least with smaller weapons and hand to hand combat. I personally like his attitude and what he adds to the show.

In real world situations though, who knows. Anyone can look like an expert with their own youtube channel.

They do use machines on some of the challenges and it would only seem fair they use it on things like cutting a hog, but that winning sword  was amazing.

That was fun to watch. Stiff competition in that episode.

Which real world situations involving a Scottish Claymore are we talking about, do you think? :D

The human element is what this entire show is all about. It's HARDLY a test of bladesmithing prowess. Any one of these guys does stupendous work, and a 'failure' on this show doesn't determine anything quantifiable. Why should the judging necessarily be any different? The whole point here is to generate interest and increase viewing. I'd say they're doing an admirable job, as this IS season three that's being discussed...

I think the most important part for these guys is the exposure and the grace which they hold themselves with, win or lose. It's about the only element that CAN be controlled by the makers.

Kudos, btw, to you, Salem. How you present yourself on these shows demonstrates exactly what I'm getting at.
