Here's my latest, 10-1/2'' 3000 layer W2, wrought iron blade (85% W2, 15% iron) I welded up this steel to effect the hamon and not a high contrast pattern, it worked :D. Damascus fittings and fossil walrus, 15-1/2'' OAL. Let me know ya'll think.

What do I think?
1. It's one of the nicest bowies I had seen posted on this forum. As you said, it's one of those pieces where everything "just works".
2. It's obviously going to a very happy owner. :) If not, please send me a PM.

take a beautiful blade and simply do a fighter guard for it?

The guard is not right to my eyes at all, and it's a danged shame too, 'cause the rest of the package is KILLER!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

There's nothing wrong in getting a little artsy. :D
The guard's unique and refreshing and it's good to vary from the straight line sometimes.
Wow! Steven, that's two bowies in a row we have not agreed on. :D

1. Fighter guards FOREVER!!!!:)

2. If we liked the same stuff, all the time Kevin, you would have it ALL, because you get up earlier than I do!;)

Time for some Garssonizing..... ;) :p

What if you could polish the lower half and leave the upper etched? Don Hanson's Zipper Hamon.... :)

Good point.
My contractors on the west coast hate that I get up early. :grumpy:

Great knife, and I like the guard personally.

What throws me of is the geometry of the blade, and specifically how low the tip is. I think I tend to find most appealing the bowies where the tip ends up no higher than the top of the blade at ricasso, and no lower than the center of the blade at ricasso. This reference point is somewhat subjective, obviously, as blades with more curvature one way or the other can have tips that go beyond those limits and yet remain appealing (well, to me).

It's possible that the perspective is playing tricks with my eyes.
